Well you sort of wrote learning the language is a means to an end. It's pretty open to intepretation. Then later it was talking about guys in here wanting more to learn the language to get to know more thai gals to screw rather than to really learn the language etc.

Do Thais lie to each other ? Of course. Anything that will help them 'save face' they will lie without batting an eyelid.

I know some smart ass will come in and say : "You mean Chinese don't lie ?"

When Chinese lie, they know it's wrong. When Thais lie, they don't think it's wrong. That is the difference in culture. Chinese understand 羞恥之心，Thais simply don't have this phrase in their idioms and proverbs. Only recently I asked my manager to offer me the equivalent of 人窮志不窮 in Thai, the manager called in two assistant managers (all University graduates). None could come up with a similar phrase in Thai. It's simply not in their dictionary !

Exactly. Thais will lie to anyone as-a-matter-of-factly. Foreigners who don't understand this culture will end up with the short end of the stick. I'm not Thai bashing, but this is their culture. Telling lie is an important tool to save face and exposing another telling lie is discourteous. In such a situation, make up and tell your own lie to smooth things out both ways. Again, yes, other races including Chinese do that too. But you have to live in Thailand for an extended period of time to understand the extent they'd go. It's not about swindling your money. It's about face.
