total recall, my foot, apple will not do it

PR Experts Say iPhone 4 Recall is 'Inevitable'
8:10 PM - July 13, 2010 - By Jane McEntegart - Source : Tom's Guide US

If you're among the roughly 1.7 million Apple fans who have purchased the iPhone 4 over the last few weeks, you could be in for a nasty surprise: A product recall as a result of the antenna issue.

We all know about the iPhone 4's antenna issue, so I won't bore you by reiterating the finer details. Covering the lower-left corner diminishes signal and solutions to the problem range from a piece of duct tape, to cases, to a software patch that will alter the iPhone's signal bars to better reflect how much signal the user actually had in the first place. However, at least three PR experts believe these solutions will not be enough and predict that an Apple iPhone 4 recall is imminent.

CultofMac cites Professor Matthew Seeger, an expert in crisis communication from Wayne State University, as saying the design flaw is 'potentially devastating.'

"Apple will be forced to do a recall for this product," he said. "It’s critically important. The brand image is the most important thing Apple has. This is potentially devastating."

Dr. Seeger isn't alone in his thinking; two more experts told CultofMac the same thing. Chris Lehane, former 'Master of Disaster' for the White House (President Clinton), said the iPhone 4 antenna problem needs to be acknowledged and addressed.

"You acknowledge it; you address it; you deal with it," Lehane said. "Apple must protect its brand image, its crown jewels, at all cost. Apple has enormous consumer loyalty but it depends on whether people believe it’s credible."

Another expert, Dr. Larry Barton, author of Crisis Leadership Now, criticized Apple's response to the problem and said they need to take a 'military-like' approach to the issue.

"Apple needs to put this fire out now,” said Dr. Barton. "There has to be a military-like response to this issue. And we have not seen this kind of urgency."

"Their response has been lackluster," he continued. "It’s been borderline irresponsible. They are in danger of betraying customers’ trust and hurting the brand, which is infinitely more valuable than any one product."

Do you think Apple will recall the iPhone 4? Let us know in the comments below.

I certainly hope they will, but so far... nothing from them, this sucks....

you make it like you have iphone 4. which you dun because you are in singapore
but even if you have bought it. that is a USA one, which mean any recall will not be available for you, since you are out of country.

or you are considering iphone 4 when it show up in singapore. and you will not buy it as it is now.

why dun you put lacquer on the left corner or always use a cover.

APPLE INC learnt from the best Taichi Masters on planet earth, MIW INC; they will tell the consumers they were caught off guard & blame the PRC for poor quality control.

Apple is behaving like Microsoft. They expect people to accept their product flaw and adjust accordingly to it and not the other way round.

Apple Holding iPhone 4 Press Conference on Friday
Wednesday July 14, 2010 08:54 PM EST
Written by arn

LoopInsight, Engadget and others are reporting that Apple will be holding a press conference this Friday.
Apple on Wednesday invited select press to a special press conference to be held this Friday in California. Apple would only say that the press conference would be regarding the iPhone 4. No other information was available when I spoke with them tonight.

The topic of discussion, of course, is the iPhone 4 which has received much press over the past few weeks regarding a signal loss issue when it is held in certain ways. A Consumer Reports article reignited discussion of this issue earlier this week.

i wonder what will they do, where is paul the octopus when we need it.

The first update to iOS 4.0 is jumping all the way up a full tenth of a point to 4.1, and it's now available for those of you signed up for Apple's iPhone Developers Program. It looks like there are major changes to Game Center (which has yet to launch) in this build, but otherwise, we're not sure what's up just yet -- and no, as far as we can tell, there's no iPad support here. Stay tuned!

Update: So we're definitely noticing some differences. The signal bars are, in fact, larger in the new OS, and we're seeing fewer bars on our 4.1 device when compared to a standard 4.0 iPhone 4 (see the image after the break)... which is pretty much exactly what Apple said would happen. We're testing now and will report back what we find!

Papaya need to wait for the old man to go first lah, not so easy. Oppo also need to gain some seats also.

Change cannot be predicted, it just happens.

In the IT sector who could have predicted that the iPod & iPhone would have contributed to MS's decline? MS didn't see it comming, they were caught off guard

With a string of failures, mistakes, honest mistakes, off-guard, losses,.. ,the PAP mystique is long gone. Many that supported the PAP now see the PAP's naked greed & incompetence. The signs are there but don't expect the PAP to see the signs from their ivory towers.

Who could have predicted the fall of Suharto, Marcos & Thaksin
LKY may be around to see these changes & even prosecuted that I hope keeps him awake at nights

If your looking for the Samsung Galaxy, you'll have to go to Singtel. I think they are the exclusive distributor in Spore.

I did see it being sold at Mustaffa for something like $958. Mustaffa also carries the Ipad & the Iphone.
