Apple chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled the latest version of the company’s vaunted iPhone on Monday, hoping to beat back growing competition from phones running Google’s Android operating system.

Mr. Jobs described the phone as, “beyond a doubt, the most precise thing and one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever made” before highlighting a number of its new features.

Faster than the previous model

Mr. Jobs said the new phone is thinner and faster that the previous iPhone. Boasting a smaller, more efficient chip, the A4, it also has better battery life, allowing seven hours of talking, 10 hours of web browsing and 300 hours of standby.

The iPhone 4 boasts cameras on both the front and the back of its glass and stainless steel body to facilitate picture taking and video chat. Mr. Jobs said a new feature called FaceTime allows video chat over wifi with no setup required. The main 5 megapixel camera also records high-definition video.

The display of the iPhone 4 is also upgraded, featuring four times as many pixels as its predecessor.

The phone will be released in the U.S. on June 24 and will cost 199 dollars for a 16 GB model and 299 dollars for a 32 GB model. It will come in both white and black cases.

In a move aimed at undercutting Google’s dominance in search, Apple has added a search option from Microsoft’s Bing search engine.

“Microsoft has done a real nice job on this,” Mr. Jobs said.

The iPhone accounts for over 40 per cent of Apple’s revenue and the company has sold more than 50 million units since launching the device in 2007. The previous version, the iPhone 3GS went on sale in June 2009.

The iPhone 4G Price and Availability was announced by Steve Jobs in WWDC 2010 during his Keynote speech. Many awesome features were revealed during the event. iPhone 4G’s design is unique and brand new, compared to iPhone, iPhone 3G and 3GS.

iPhone 4G is the thinnest iPhone ever! It’s also made of stainless steel! The glass is scratch resistant and crystal clear to produce the highest optical quality. It has a front camera for Video Chat using iChat.

iPhone 4G has a 3.5 inch retina display, 960 x 640 pixels (that’s 4x more than the previous iPhone), its display has 326 pixels per inch, 800:1 contrast ratio, and has IP technology for superb color and wide angle viewing.

It has a 5 mega-pixel camera which can digitally zoom 5x. iPhone 4G is powered by the A4 processor. Its speed is unmatched compared to the previous iPhone of course.

iPhone 4G’s battery life is also improved! 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours 3G browsing, 10 hours Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours music, 40 hours of music, and 300 hours in standby mode.

Its capacity is up to 32GB. It’s a quad band HSDPA / HSUPA phone with dual microphones and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Another cool thing about iPhone 4G is it has a Gyro-accelerometer, which provides 6-axis motion sensing! Oh wow!

It can record 720p HD videos at 30 frames per second. You can just tap it to focus and it has video-editing capabilities. iMovie is now available in all iPhones, including the old ones. Just upgrade your OS to iOS4.

Not all features are available in the old iPhone, but you can avail some of the new features of the iPhone 4G if you upgrade to iOS4. The upgrade is free and will be released on June 21, 2010.

iPhone 4G has also multitasking capability, which is another awesome addition to the iPhone features.

Price and availability of iPhone 4 is also announced. It comes in two colors, the black and white. Price is $199 USD for the 16GB model, and $299 USD for the 32GB model. Pre-orders of iPhone will start a week from now.

They will shipping in five countries first. The 5 countries are the US, France, Germany, UK, and Japan. In early July, they will ship the iPhone in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Swede, and Switzerland.

And by September 2010, they will ship the iPhone 4G in 88 countries!

That’s all for the latest updates on the iPhone 4G!

Wow, that is pretty good specs, especially the camera and longer battery talk-time lifespan.

Does iphone4 allow saving of phone info into the SIM card or does it has an extended memory card storage ?

Wonder how much it will cost in Singapore if selling in US at US$199 without plan tie-up.

Can buy in US and use here without any unlocking ?

Remember Singaporeans,

1. US 199 is only S$278.00

Just wait and see how the Telcos here will screw your wallets after the WC2010 fiasco. They smell and see a quick recoup.

New iPhone has a hi res screen 960x640 called Retina display. This I think is important for older users

Yeh, thats 1 phone for me .

Donch know leh as not mentioned if price are tied to a package or not. But then, why would Steve Jobs quote a price and not said you need to be tied to a pkg iit is so ? Won't that cause him a problem if ppl wanted to buy without package, unless telco has exclusive like the initial iphone, and it is retailed at higher price ?

Yes I think jobs said it came with a flash. that will be awesome provided it doesnt drain the battery too much.

Didn't phones come with flash and front camera since early 2000s? Iphone is so last decade. No wonder Philip says it is for dummies.

iphone need a cover, if not you lose signal

apple force user of new iphone 4 to buy cover.
they are so good to their 3rd party acessories maker

the antenna is connected to their external stainless steel body, so by holding it the non apple iphone4 way, you ground the antenna with your hands and it lose your call signal.

brillant is it. apple.

thank you apple for your support for 3rd party companies.

oh steve jobs tell the people who line up for days for the phone that it is a non issue, you just have to hold it in your right hand. not the left hand. if you must hold it with your left hand, get a cover. yeah thanks steve.

The response is notable in that it is not simply a copy/paste of the official statement from Apple. Steve Jobs had previously been replying to all signal inquiries on Friday with the same generic statement published Thursday:

Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.
