One thing about the promotion of Pinky that his promotion is really fast. So fast that it has become an embarrassment that now Pinky does not use his BG rank anymore.

Remember in the past,,Pinky and Georgie and Teo Chee hean etc was always addressed as BG (NS) Pinky etc etc,,than later on it all just change to MR Pinky etc,,

The BG thing was done to show how good they are etc,,but now,,the more low profile the better,,,,was told that Pinky went to meet some Generals from other countries,,and he was asked,,U are a BG at 30? What wars have you fought,,,?? Pinky was at a lost and 'I dont know what to say'...so all the BG title etc was removed from there,,,

They reverted to Mr. as by NS legislation you're no longer NS after a certain age.

Kee Chiu still holds the MG (NS) rank. He's the worst rapidly promoted guy.

I thought the rumors was he met Gen Colin Powell? USA Secretary of State. 4 STAR GENERAL, he rose through the ranks from 2nd Lt to 4 Star General by seeing ACTION on the ground, whereas BG(NS) rank was a joke, hence George Yeo removed that title too.

TCH promotion was not very fast......GY got his star at 33.
2 recent ones that were fast tracked.....Kee Chiew and Lim Chuan Poh........though they did not break LHL record of 31 year old general......they got it before 35 which was even younger than winston choo then.........

Winston Choo was not a scholar. Only true general. After him, everyone was a fast tracked scholar.

Even before Choo, TJD Campbell was a true soldier, fought in WWII

They could put BG (Ret)....but that would make them look like old fogeys.
Reason they use BG (NS) was to some give the idea they still hold some power in the event of war still able to lead out troops. I wonder if all BGs fall in not enough soldiers to go around end up each general command only a battalion or less.

Choo combat experience is very limited. More like skirmish experience. No Singaporean today can claim true combat experience, as the country was not at war since 1945. So unless SAF sends combat troops into Afghanistan for front line action, everyone is paper general.

Even the British royal princes have more real combat experience than any single soldier in SAF.
