LHL is the first batch of SAFOS
He was also the one with super accelerated promotion to BG. It got so obvious that SAF had to promote a couple more SAFOS at same rate as LHL, and they are none other than George yeo and TCH. Thereafter, later batches of SAFOS never see the days of early 30s BG. Nowadays even the future chief of armed forces only gets his BG at around 37 to 39 years old.

TCH promotion was not very fast......GY got his star at 33.
2 recent ones that were fast tracked.....Kee Chiew and Lim Chuan Poh........though they did not break LHL record of 31 year old general......they got it before 35 which was even younger than winston choo then.........

We had to stand and wave the singapore flag in some army camp because this fella was quiting the forces to go into politics.
The whole camp stood around the streets and waved the flag given to us.
After that we returned the flag and continued with the obstacle course with FBO.
GY quit parade even had fighter jets fly past.......can you beat that! And he was bond breaker kns how come Philip Yeo never shame GY then?

I don't recall kee Chiu getting his star at 34. I remember he was 36 or 37.

all these promotions without fighting a single war.

awesome achievements indeed. the rest of the world should have people like this.

then the secular world will enjoy peace for millenium to come.

Thats truely remarkable...just read somewhere...in Mynnmar, the soldier has to go into deep jungle to hunt for rebels just to earn his one stripes....ie. if u are a private, u get yr one stripe and promote to lance corporal after this stint...

So in Singapore, it is not wrong for foreign magazine to label our SAF generals as paper generals..and the best part of the deal.....they change from military to civiilan dress and get parachute into some cozy high paying appointments..as long as they keep taking orders in their civilian role...

So now..u see the picture why so many generals in the civil service...when the boss bark the orders..it is "yes sir..yes sir""

"" Kee Chiu""..anyone..???

Lee Hsien Loong was born in 1952.

Enlisted in SAF as a Recruit in 1971.

Disrupted his OCS training and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1971.

Went to Cambridge on a President's Scholarship and graduated in 1974. Returned to SAF as a Lieutenant.

He was then promoted to Brigadier General in 1983 (he also disrupted to do a Masters degree at Harvard in 1980).

Basically he served 8 years of active service in the SAF, in which time he was promoted from Lieutenant to BG (that's six ranks).

The ranks of CPT to COL all have two grades each. Meaning that he was promoted NINE times in eight years.

Truly a military legend - I can't think of a General with a record this stellar. Patton, Pershing, Mountbatten, McArthur and Powell are all left trailing in his wake.

Is it true that that Jinz was only a SAF Captain in charge of logisitic or store

when she was in the army?

BY cannot overtake the crown prince......OCBC connections white horse TCH got his star even much later and had to go in backdoor via Marine Parade BE...Lim Hng Kiang even missed getting his star.

Not sure on CCS, I based on he was already COL at 30/31 while commander of 10 SIB.......after 2-3 years stint there he went to on mindef and i calculated he should have collected his star then.

At 36 or 37 the best in the IDF, US Marines, Australian Defence Force would be in operational zones.... at most, LTC grade.

Look at these leaders.... respect respect

Netanyahu is the first Israeli prime minister born in Israel after the founding of the state. Netanyahu joined the Israeli Defense Forces during the 1967 Six-Day War, and became a team leader in the Sayeret Matkal special forces unit. He took part in many missions, including Operation Gift (1968) and Operation Isotope (1972), during which he was shot in the shoulder. He fought on the front lines in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, taking part in special forces raids along the Suez Canal, and then leading a commando assault deep into Syrian territory.[1] He achieved the rank of captain before being discharged. Netanyahu served as the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations from 1984 to 1988, member of the Likud Party, and was Prime Minister from June 1996 to July 1999.

Barak joined the Israel Defense Forces (I.D.F.) in 1959. He served in the IDF for 35 years, rising to the position of Chief of the General Staff and the rank of Rav Aluf (Lieutenant-General), the highest in the Israeli military. During the Yom Kippur War, Barak commanded an improvised regiment of tanks which, among other things, helped rescue paratrooper battalion 890, commanded by Yitzhak Mordechai, which was suffering heavy losses in the Battle of the Chinese Farm.

During his service as a commando in the elite Sayeret Matkal, Barak led several highly acclaimed operations, such as: "Operation Isotope", the rescue mission to free the hostages onboard Sabena Flight 571 at Lod Airport in 1972; the 1973 covert mission Operation Spring of Youth in Beirut, in which he was disguised as a woman in order to assassinate members of the Palestine Liberation Organization; Barak was also a key architect of the June 1976 Operation Entebbe, another rescue mission to free the hostages of the Air France aircraft hijacked by terrorists and forced to land at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda. These highly acclaimed operations, along with Operation Bayonet led to the dismantling of Palestinian terrorist cell Black September. It has been alluded that Barak also masterminded the Tunis Raid on 16 April 1988, in which PLO leader Abu Jihad was assassinated.[6]

Later he served as head of Aman, the Military Intelligence Directorate (1983–85), head of Central Command (1986–87) and Deputy Chief of the General Staff (1987–91). He served as Chief of the General Staff between 1 April 1991 and 1 January 1995. During this period he implemented the first Oslo Accords and participated in the negotiations towards the Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace.

Barak was awarded the Medal of Distinguished Service and four Chief of Staff citations (Tzalash HaRamatkal) for courage and operational excellence. These five decorations make him the most decorated soldier in Israeli history (jointly with close friend Nechemya Cohen).[7] In 1992 he was awarded the Legion of Merit (Commander) by the United States.[8] In 2012, he was again awarded by the United States with the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service.[9]

He was promoted to BG after the Sentosa cable car incident. The PAPpy press painted him as the hero for weeks. What did he really do? Nothing. He risked the lives of SAF soldiers to rescue the trapped when there were other alternatives that didn't need to risk more lives. Fortunately for him, no rescuer died.

Then he was made out to be an economic genius when he led a panel to restructure the economy. He got all the glory while the ideas came from the panel.

If you are from the first family, you will always get the credit for success and no blame for failures.

I am sure they had a scapegoat on stand-by just in case the rescue operation failed. Happens all the time in the SPF to protect the scholars. In the case of LHL, LKY's son. So, 1000% certain a tua pek kong will be used if the need arises.

Israel must be cursing themselves for training Singapore and letting people like LHL get higher ranks than their leaders
