Why is Vivian keeping quiet on the Haze issue?

Like the DPM in 1990's to bring who to what court over the CLOB remember...you think, Vivien have the "balls"...aiyah! only good at trying to fix, you know what...

Didn't some ASEAN country contributed billions of $$ to Indonesia, especially kawan SINgapura some years ago to control the, "slash & burn"???

Giving money to Indonesia to control the "slash and burn"?? Seriously?? By the time the money filters through the rungs of corrupt national, provincial and municipal officials, all that's left will hardly be enough to buy fire hoses. The corruption problem there is so bad that no President who took the reins since Suharto has been able to do anything about it.

As for what Vivian can do -- seriously speaking, the RIGHT THING to do is to either (a) summon the Indonesian ambassador and issue a strong statement that enough is enough and we are fed up after so many years, or (b) file an international lawsuit in the Hague.

Providing firefighters to the Indonesians will NOT solve the problem. How many firefighters does Singapore have? We are not talking about a small patch of grass here. The forest fires are ranging across hundreds of thousands of acres of land. The solution to the problem is tougher enforcement against the farmers and the corrupt foreign companies that perpetuate this mess, and NOT frantically trying to provide firefighters -- this will like putting a band-aid over a gaping wound!!

Maybe Vivian is afraid of reprisals from the Indonesians, or maybe he is afraid of escalating the matter further.

But that is NOT an excuse. As the responsible minister, confronting the Indonesians is the RIGHT THING TO DO and it is why we, the taxpayers, pay him millions. Our government should stand up for Singapore, not meekly kowtow to those who are causing us problems which affect our quality of life!!

Come on, what is the big fuss? The haze comes around only once every 50 years.
In any case, such things are self-inflicted. Got haze, stay home!

But seriously, this is one situation where no propaganda can be inserted into his message -

"inclusive?" all of us FTs, PRs, citizens, we all get to breathe the same air.
"citizens must do more to improve the situation" - what can we do? nothing, right?
"help each other/bonding" - can anyone breathe in more, so that his neighbour does not have to breathe in so much.

The reality is that Vivian is just one bugger of a bully who is good at thumbing down the people who gave him his job and when it comes to abang/adek situations, he shrinks more than he normally does. And even if he says something, unlikely to be profound. After his latest gaffe of "self-inflicted" dengue, maybe he has learnt to keep his big mouth shut - at least he thinks we won't take him for a bigger fool than he actually is. And hope, for his sake, that no one in his family circle gets dengue - it will be really ironical then.

The haze issue is pretty recent. Can't remember ever seeing it in the 70's or even in the 80's.

I wonder whether it is coincidence that our PM is taking leave when it is the haze season:confused:
Spore has access to satellite monitoring & they DID offer the indonesians the satellite information to help them fight the fires.

Dunch be silly. What else can he do. He has already notify his Indo counterpart. WHAT CAN OPPO do either?
Stop blaming everything on PAP, you Twit!

on the contrary alot of things he could do. lodge a diplomatic protest. allow citizens to protest at Indon High Comm, list the palm oil companies involved and target them for scrutiny, fine them for pollution or ask the public to boycott the purchase of their products, get in touch with his KL counterpart and together threaten economic sanctions, etc, etc. so many things he can do. question is does he have the guts? coincidentally, how come so many ministars suddenly not in singapore but in europe for visits or holiday just before the haze struck??? probbaly got tip off from NNEEAA???

Mrs Vivian has no clue on how to minimize the haze risk thus he is mum about it. But that's unlike his predecessor, who ballyho "once in 50 years" at the first sight when mother nature run riot.

As the Minister of the Environment, shouldn't he do something instead of just keeping quiet?

I know the haze is not directly caused by him or his ministry, but he should take action now instead of wasting time criticizing WP. This has reached CRISIS levels!

Kapitan, funny you asked such question because its known to all that:

1. PAP answers to no one so no need explanation
2. Sinkies are balless don't even ask and even if asked just accept any dumb answers

The key thing here is under the freedom of choice sinkies had made the choice selling their soul to the devil.

RETRIBUTION.
If all the corrupt Indonesian Chinese with their billions hiding in Singapore banks were to offer help to their own farmers , the haze problems can be reduced (alternative to slash and burn to clear land for farming).
Indonesia is taking its time to ratify the 2002 agreement to reduce trans-boundary haze pollution just as a red dot took its time( and set many conditions) for the extradition treaty.
Why should these corrupt (and very often rude and arrogant) Indonesians be allowed to enjoy the good life in the red dot (and pushing up property prices/reducing jobs/places in schools for locals) with their dirty monies when their farmers are wallowing in poverty in Sumatra and has to resort to slash and burn as the cheapest way of clearing land.?

you are barking up the wrong tree. whack the companies like Cargil and GoldenAgri etc since they are within our jurisdiction. make the companies responsible for not using slash and burn techniques to clear the land. the money to bribe the local indon forestry officials, you think it drops from the skies???

follow the money trail............

We all know the hard truth, that the PAP gov't never offers $$$ to solve a problem.

The hard truth is the haze is around since 1998..the Asian crisis...and problems started once Singapore govt gave refuge to their corrupt Indonesian officials who park their ii-gotten money here...

Indonesian has make it a point not to relent and punish SINGAPORE ,on the quiet .
They deliberately slow their enforcement in this fire-fighting exercise.
They stop selling us sands and stones...

If we keep hoarding their corrupt officials $billions, the haze problem is here to stay.
In short, it is our Govt own doing and we are made to pay for it...

Ask Vivan, how haze problem is related to the corrupt billions we hoard for their corrupt officials.???

Most likely, our controlled media will mute this topic.....
