They do have combat jets. Always come prepared. They are Singapore's greatest threat followed by a rising China. There are many Islamic radicals there who don't think straight. Not really talking about PAP propaganda right now but discussing on what actually would happen and how Singapore should respond in the event of greater hostilities. Actually, 70 years ago, the world was very different. These days, Japan has helped Singapore a lot inspite of certain trolls and nationalists and are no where near the threat of the Malay neighbors. If Singapore isn't careful, innocent dead Chinese and Non-Chinese Singaporeans would be riddled with bullets from their neighbors and at that time, Japan might be one country that Singapore does rely on for help. That's the romantic myth I believed in too when I was younger. They fought side by side in wars but that was more than half a century ago. The goodwill has long since evaporated.

Very few Kiwi businesses succeed in OZ simply because the Australians don't want them to succeed. The Kiwis resent OZ ownership of any company with Kiwi roots to. That's how Kiwibank got started. It was an attempt by NZ to end the dominance of OZ owned banks. (ASB, ANZ, Westpac etc)

The latest spat is over supermarket produce. The OZs are now boycotting NZ products wherever they can. There have also been major spats over fruit exports. The OZs use whatever excuse they can muster to keep Kiwi stuff out of OZ citing the risk of plant and crop diseases.

The OZs probably won't invade simply because they don't have to. They could destroy NZ economically if they wanted to.

Indonesia doesn't have the means to launch missile attacks without being detected first. In fact, I don't believe they have the capability to launch missile strikes, much less enough that gives them US on Afghanistan or Iraq type damage. Singapore would beg the UN to intervene and in the event of an invasion, most would side against the invader. Blockading gas supplies would mean cutting shipping routes would be blocked affecting far more powerful nations that use it. There's a reason why nations don't just go to war unless absolutely necessary. An invasion would mean human rights abuse and the world would look at Indonesia in a very diffferent light. There's many in the West who've had enough of Muslims and trigger happy enough to use this as a reason to fight with Indonesia.

Finally, I agree with you that Singapore had better get along with its neighbors but must always come prepared to defend itself.

It is impossible to invade Indonesia. You have no idea as to the scale of the operation that would be required.

Where would the beachhead be established for a start? Just look at the size and the number of Islands involved.

As for the UN they'd take 6 months just to pass a resolution to issue a statement.

The issue is not an actual strike but simply the threat of one. All Indonesia has to do is start navy and heavy artillery exercises in a nearby Island and confidence in the peace and stability of the region would be shaken sufficiently to spook the business world.
