However is just a straight stop, ABS prevents locking up the tires, which increases stopping distance. Non-abs can lock the tires which will stop you far sooner.
If tyres are locked, braking distances increase because dynamic friction is less than static friction.
For a non ABS equipped car to stop in a shorter distance than an ABS system, the driver must avoid locking up.... something most drivers cannot do in a moment of panic.
