Thinking of getting Crizal coating for your glasses?

I have wanted to try Issac, are they good & how expensive are they? My first optician was Star Optical, in which I used from young. The optician was growing old, & I noticed he is not so accurate like before,so I switched to another reputable one, which I am using till today. My current optician is growing old too. Issac is one of the optical shops from that generation of shops I trust.

The only external optician I ever tried was many years ago was in KL, where I bought a frame & made a coated sunglass with prescription. The spectacles was ready in 2 days & I still have that pair today.

Is Issac good? & their prices??

The old man Isaacs pasted away. He was working at the Clifford Centre branch. So too did Ms. Ong who passed away from cancer. She was a long time optometrist there. They now have 2 newer optomestrists employed there. You can ask the counter staff which one is more experienced, she is quite helpful.

They only hire experienced optometrists so whichever you get you can expect good service. Or maybe you can visit their Camden branch which is under Stan Isaac. He was originally at Specialist Centre. The address can be found at

They might charge higher but I think it's worth the $ to avoid the hassles. I've tried some cheaper places but have had some problems: incorrect precription, poor workmanship that caused the lens to fall off the frame. Even when initially the service was ok, over time they can make mistakes. Have been happy with Isaacs for the past 15+ years. Never had any problems with a pair that I got from Isaacs.

I also got a set of hard contacts from them. I had to go for a fitting 15+ times until Ms.Ong was satisfied that they fit properly:eek:
It shows a commitment to quality of service:)

My current pair of steel frame, with a high refractive(1.67) glass lens cost me $700 to $800.
However my prescription is very high. It might be cheaper if you have better eyesight.

Was at Central Rama 2 shop where they cut and replaced my reading glasses lens for my old frame in half hour

I don't think they could do that if you have a deep prescription.

For those with heavy duty glasses they have to specially order the lens.

you mean those dental shops along the roadside?

i did mine in hospital which cost about 1200 baht.

I've been to the dental wing of Bumrungrad Hospital & had cleaning & a filling done. Found that their prices are comparable to the prices in Spore. My thai friend told me that Bumrungrad wasn't cheap & in the context of thailand I have to agree:)

For cleaning one shouldn't have to pay Spore prices in Thailand. The quote of 5,000baht is in-line with many of the dental clinics in Pattaya. That's where I had the cleaning done. Didn't plan on getting a crown done, so don't know difficult a procedure it is?

This is the part that is hard to fathom. Ms Ong remained slim and fit all her live. Healthy outlook yet ended up with cancer. A doctor friend told that predisposition plays a major part and the rest such as healthy living and fitness is a small %.

Clifford Centre was where my optician was, without naming them, the old Clifford Centre, I pass by Issac for years when I was working around there, sometimes more than 10 times a day..but I had yet to step in & try...until, like I had said...my optician had grown old & retired & I do not quite trust the younger ones..so I went looking for another..

You have to factor in fate too.

Back then they smoking indoors was not against the law.
Isaac Senior was a heavy smoker & Ms. Ong was probably a victim of 2nd hand smoke for decades.

TS, can consider lasik. Life minus glasses gives you new perspective :p

But do in stinkiepor, as need pre and post checks. Prices dropped over years to circa 1.1k/eye, with better standards now

The problem with lasik is there is no guarantee that a person will regain perfect eyesight. So you may still need glass but at a lower degree.

At night your vision may have what I call a star burst effect?? that's what I call it. Maybe someone has the correct definition of this problem? When I was using contacts at night I would also this same star bust effect around light sources.

The long term affects of Lasik is still unknown. After all it was only started in the late 1980's.

My mum was a heavy smoker, I used to buy Benson & Hedges, Rothmans Of Pall Mall, Camel, buy the "ang hoon" & let us roll' em.. ha ha ha. My uncle smoke pipe, I will buy tobacco from the "off the wall" kek leng shop, the kind of tobacco I know by sight & not the name I remember, fill in the pipe & light for him... In other words, there were smokers in the family... it was common to light one up after a meal.

But I never took up smoking & do not have any smoke related problems..maybe I am blessed? get the point??

Bangkok only have plastic lenses?

Seiko titanium frame is not cheap. For $250 in Bangkok is consider reasonable.
There's a lot of specs shop along the whole stretch of sukhumvit road but I'm not sure if there are other places
which can be much cheaper.

How much it cost you to make a spec in Isaac? if they are skillful and accurate in making progressive lens, I may consider.

Maybe plastic lens is more popular among Thais because it's cheaper to make  It is also lighter than glass.

The shop I went to actually has a nice range of frames.
However I was limited because of my criterias; that it was made of titanium & it had to use a small lens. For my heavy prescription, it is better to have a smaller frame which uses smaller lens so that the total weight of my glasses are kept low.

If your presription is low, I see no reason why you can't source the Oakly frames separately from the US, Spore,...& have the lens done in BKK. I see many Top Charon outlets with pretty salesgirls. Some of them may even be good optometrists:)

You need to check your eyes carefully with these salesgirls, after you have collected your spectacles and put them on, you may find out that, they ain't what they should have been.... ha ha ha ha :D

It might be different if you are working with someone for 9+ hours in an enclosed office environment. You've probably heard of sick buildings. Ms. Ong was exposed to this for 30+years before she came down with cancer.

The funny thing is that Mr. Isaac the heavy smoker didn't die of cancer & his wife who is a smoker is still around:eek:

We all only have one pair of eyes. So don't play, play & risk them out of vanity, take care of them:)
