I remember someone asking whether it's worth paying for Crizl coating for spectacle. I was taking to an optician in Bangkok & he told me that Crizal has been superceded by a newer & better product. Something that he calls VG???
Anyone ever heard of it:confused:

VD I know, it had been around a long time in Bangkok ha ha ha Don't know if Crizal is really that good, but I am using Transitions lens..& it is ok.

hey johnny, try this shop. my friend bought his crizal lens spectacles from there. I only bought a year's supply of contact lenses :D

Eye Lab
MBK Shopping Center
1st Floor (near the supermarket)
Payathai Road, Wangmai, Patumwan
Bangkok 10330
Tel: 02-620-9490, 086-3139565

Is it much cheaper to get your specs in Bangkok?
If they can deliver the specs in less than a week, I may want to consider getting a pair if I'm going there.

I did get a backup pair from MBK a few years ago but it was from an Optical 99 outlet.

The shop where I recently visited is located on Sukhumvit, the guy has been in business for 30 years. Told me that he used to include Crizal for all the spectacles he dispensed but now includes VG.

I stopped using contacts years decade ago because it is really difficult with my prescription. A pity actually because when I used contacts I was able to achieve Marksman during life firing:)

According to that guy VG/VD is newer than Crizal. He used to include Crizal but now includes the newer VG/VD. Unlike in Spore where they charge seprarately for the extras e.g. coatings like Crizal.

I used my prescription that I got from my optician in Spore. In Spore I go to the more expensive Isaac so it is definitly cheaper in Bangkok.
The lenses are manufactured in Thailand. Only plastic lenses are available. I was looking at the more expensive high index lens, a 1.7.

I am currently using the cheaper high refractive index of 1.67. For the price of a 1.67, I can get a 1.7 from Bangkok. In Spore a 1.7 is very expensive. For my heavy prescription he said it would take from 4 to 7 working days. My prescription is very high & if the lens manufacturing process goes smoothly I could get it done within a few days. The longer quoted time was to factor in for possible glitches.

At the BKK shop I was looking at a Seiko titanium frame for $250. Is that expensive?

For anyone wondering what you can do in LOS other than shopping & eating.

Can always do some dental care e.g. about 500baht for cleaning, 5,000baht for a crown. :)

I have wanted to try Issac, are they good & how expensive are they? My first optician was Star Optical, in which I used from young. The optician was growing old, & I noticed he is not so accurate like before,so I switched to another reputable one, which I am using till today. My current optician is growing old too. Issac is one of the optical shops from that generation of shops I trust.

The only external optician I ever tried was many years ago was in KL, where I bought a frame & made a coated sunglass with prescription. The spectacles was ready in 2 days & I still have that pair today.

Is Issac good? & their prices??

Was at Central Rama 2 shop where they cut and replaced my reading glasses lens for my old frame in half hour

you have lived thru 2 generations of optician

... you must be older than lky

No lah!, first optician was the 1st generation, was already old when I knew him, so, when I was old, he was very old. The second one, was the 2nd generation from the 1st generation that had retired, was young then..but we age, don't we. 'last leaf' is immortal..or IMMORtAL? ha ha ha ha whichever!

You may have to pay 30%-50% more for this, I got my Seiko here.

TS, can consider lasik. Life minus glasses gives you new perspective :p

But do in stinkiepor, as need pre and post checks. Prices dropped over years to circa 1.1k/eye, with better standards now

Bangkok only have plastic lenses?

Seiko titanium frame is not cheap. For $250 in Bangkok is consider reasonable.
There's a lot of specs shop along the whole stretch of sukhumvit road but I'm not sure if there are other places
which can be much cheaper.

How much it cost you to make a spec in Isaac? if they are skillful and accurate in making progressive lens, I may consider.

i check this type of frame online, the design looks so old and primitive..i prefer Oakley Frame.

I'm also keen in Oakley Frame but it's quite expensive to get it in S'pore.
Anyone knows if it's cheaper to get it in Bangkok?
