I welcome the Prime Minister's decision to call for a by-election in Hougang.


In addition to allowing the people of Hougang to be represented in Parliament, the Hougang by-election has also put the issue of opposition unity into focus. Our first priority is to ensure that Hougang remains with the opposition and not fall into the hands of the PAP. At this juncture of our political development post-<wbr>GE2011, the best way forward is for all of us to support WP in its defence of the seat against the PAP. I am sure WP will appreciate this gesture of political cooperation from individuals and other opposition parties alike and will reciprocate accordingly in the run up to the 2016 general election.



Opposition unity is the concern of every one and is not a one-way street. All must play their part. Supporters of opposition unity rightly expect all opposition parties to work together, cooperating and complementing each other to maximize their chances of success at the polls to advance democracy in Singapore.


There is much for every opposition party to do to ensure victory in the 2016 GE. Going forward, voters want more than a mere opposition voice in Parliament. They want alternative policies to be presented to them to deal with the pressing issues facing Singaporeans that the ruling party seems unable to handle. The next GE will be fought on quality of candidates and coherence of policy proposals. We have the responsibility to offer good candidates with well thought out policy alternatives to our fellow Singaporeans. We should concentrate our resources on recruiting the best candidates to join our ranks and together formulate good policy alternatives. Intruding into fellow opposition parties' wards will dilute our resources and not maximize our strengths.

The Hougang by-election is an opportunity to demonstrate oppositon unity and build opposition co-operation towards the next general election.

TJS is gathering his own clique of loyal supporters. He uses various platforms and then ditches them when he has milked it for what it's worth. Don't think for a moment he is doing SDP or NSP a favour by advocating no 3CFs from WP in GE2016. I think you and others here in this forum can see past this facade.

When he first appeared on our political scene, I find him quite refreshing. Then he quit SDP and stood for PE. I started to sense something about this person whom I didn't in the beginning. It's not his combative style. That I can stomach.

My spider-sense tells me this guy is dangerous, can't be trusted.

I think is more like 百家争鸣。 WP would want to extend geographically and "intruding" into other parties' territories, resulting in multi-corner fight is inevitable.
I see no problem with this. We need a single strong opposition party with the ultimate aim to provide a viable alternative to PAP, not many small opposition parties in parliament bickering with each other.

His press statement sounds good, but if I am LTK, I will smile a wry smile to myself.

LTK earn his credibility as an Opposition Leader after years of plain hard work - not flowery talk & waxing lyrical.

WP emerged as the strongest Oppo Party not by accident or GMS would like to have us believe, by stepping on the shoulders of other Oppo Parties.

In the current oppo eco-system, natural contention, attrition, taking the measure of each other etc etc will occur naturally.

Sure, political horse trading is part & parcel of political life.

Must say our political climate has changed so much in the last 5 to 6 years, especially the last 2. Many many colourful characters emerged. Don't think we ever had so much fun watching them. Question is why there seems to be this sudden explosion of political activism and political wannabes?

Its called tipping point. Long before the term was coined and became fashionable old man was an astute practitioner of not pushing the envelope too far. He ensured they had a roof over their head even thought they were technically tenants, decent food, and some money for holidays. He took away the basic freedom of speech and community action but made sure the materials blings were there to occupy them. I remember that NTUC Income was core to their plan. Every estate had one. Buyers were to ensure that chicken, vegetables were kept very cheap. We have farms in Indonesia that grow vegetables just for us at a low price. Any talent that had a mine of their own were co-opted or given perks and appointment to keep them busy.

Now it is just to hard. The climate does not allow this and the 2nd and 3rd generation leaders are not good at this.

TJS is a crazy fuck and wily fox. There're only two parties in Singapore with legit claims on wards to defend, WP in Aljunied-Hougang and PAP in the rest of Singapore. Scroobal is right. He attended both TCB and TKL PE election preparatory meetings and then he himself contested to hand Tony Tan the victory.PMO and ED gleefully obliged by handing him the PE COE citing case-by-case basis clause when by Constitutional Articles, he didn't qualify under any.

He wants to defend what fuck? What wards do he and other other parties have to defend and lay first claims on? Even CST has to concede to that after Lina lost PP.

GMS is another fuck gone crazy. If you can win wards, you must be off-track sell-out PAP approved, immoral or whatever because only PAP is supposed to be able to win.

Many bros in this forum already predicted correctly that some these people who expressed interested in Hougang would later use the tactic of pulling out and claim to be doing WP a favour, and ask for the same "favour" in return.

It's like those kids' games where I push you, then hold your arm, then say "I saved you".
