This is quite a big cock up, obviously someone did not allocate any budget for any POP at PLAB and the shortfall has to be made up from the parents' own pocket. For a service that consumes a good chunk of our GDP, they somehow can't cough up any money for the transportation and refreshments. Let's see what new fairy tale Desmond Tan has to spin soon.

NS isn't a "sacrifice". It's a freakin' holiday camp. No other country in the world gives its male citizens a paid 2 year holiday with all expenses thrown in.

Which holiday camp in the world gives u a high chance of death, permanent injury or disability, long term health risks, not to mention injuries etc.? I have known personally at least 2 individuals who have died, several that were paralysed, and many injuries (including myself), as well as long term ill effects like hearing loss (2 friends in arty had this) etc. Sounds to me like u never did NS before. EIther that, or u are one big asshole.

One guy fell into a cesspit in Taiwan but he managed to crawl out covered in hog shit and the exercise carried on albeit with a rather foul odour about the place.

I think the same applies to politics. It's basically wishful thinking. Some people just prefer the nice, warm emotions that illogic provides. To "deconvert" the brainwashed, you would have to appeal to their emotions rather than their rationality. Talk to them not of truths but feelings.

Someone in my company committed suicide. You may say that he is mentally too weak for society but I would hazard a guess that if not for NS, he might have access to better support for his condition.
