If one is retired, unmarried (or children grown up) and had paid off his housing loan, living on $1,000 per month is sufficient if he is living modestly...

Breakdown of monthly expenses:
Meal $15 per day X 30 days - $450
Transport (very free, take MRT alot) - $150
Others (cinema, haircut, phone bill..etc) - $200
Contingency - $200

Bro, life worth living like that? No cig, no beer, no Geylang, no ECA, no beh pio, no betting etc.

Cabbies taking home more after fare hike

Drivers' takings up by as much as 30 per cent since December, say operators

By Christopher Tan

Cabbies' earnings have risen by up to 30 per cent since a fare revision last December, which had initially dampened passenger numbers.

ComfortDelGro, the biggest operator here with about 15,600 taxis, said average net income per cab per day has risen by 12 per cent to $210.93.

The figure, up from $188.69 in November, excludes costs drivers have to bear, such as rental and diesel.

It translates to a monthly income of $5,906 (based on 28 days because of days off),

or about $2,953 per driver per shift.

Even as earnings have improved, industry observers said the gains
would be eroded if operating costs continue to rise.
For instance, the diesel pump price has climbed by close to 10 per cent
from a year ago. And as taxi companies replace ageing cabs, they tend
to veer towards bigger or more luxurious models as these command higher rentals.

SINGAPORE: Four former Fullerton Hotel employees were charged on Tuesday in court with accepting bribes totalling more than S$20,000 from a taxi driver.

Two of them later pleaded guilty and one of them was fined S$18,000 for accepting a S$1,000 bribe.

Forty-six-year-old bell captain Azahar Ariffin and 47-year-old bellman Goh Yeow Kwang admitted to accepting the money from Yip Kiam Bin in exchange for assigning guests' taxi bookings to the cabby.

They did this instead of using the hotline when guests asked for taxi limousine services.

Azahar, who had held his post since 2000, was fined S$10,000 for accepting S$3,800 in bribes between 2006 and 2008.

He also had to pay a penalty, equivalent to the amount he had accepted in bribes.

Should he fail to fork out the money, he would have to spend 14 weeks behind bars.

Goh took S$1,000 in bribes from May 2007 until mid-2008.

He was fined on Tuesday S$18,000 and ordered to pay a penalty of S$1,000 as he had already been convicted of a similar offence in 2003.

Then, Goh had to pay a fine and a penalty totalling nearly S$13,000 after being convicted of five graft charges.

The two other men charged were the hotel's then-head concierge, 49-year-old Muhammad Salman Abdullah Tan (alias Gregory Tan), and another bell captain, 45-year-old Narayanasamy P Annamalai.

Tan faces three charges involving S$2,200.

Narayanasamy, who is accused of 11 graft charges, is believed to have accepted more than S$13,000 in bribes.

Their pre-trial conferences will be held in November.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kok Shu-En told the court that Yip, the cabby, was fined S$28,000, last year.

Third bell captain fined for taking bribes from cabby

At least five others from Fullerton Hotel have similar cases pending

By Khushwant Singh
A third bell captain of the ritzy Fullerton Hotel Singapore landed in court on Friday for taking money from a limousine taxi driver.

Two others were dealt with in August last year for similar offences, and it is believed that at least five more will have their date in court in coming months.

The bell captains who have been dealt with all had similar arrangements with TransCab Mercedes-Benz driver Yip Kiam Bin.
If hotel guests wanted a limousine, they would call Yip. He in turn bribed them by giving them loans of various sums.

this only shows the cabby had to resort to breaking the law to increase his earnings.

Still have to drive 9 hours into the wee hours to earn $100.
Dun call me hard to please.....our leaders tells us of swiss standard 1st world.....and reward themselves handsomely.
Likewise ordinary sinkies deserve to live better too.

$100 per day income might be more than what the cleaning ladies and security guards gets.....but $100 a day hardly gets you far nowsadays.
And btw how many of these taxi uncles, cleaning ladies and security guards are past retirement age but still forced to work?

My friend works everyday, 5pm-2am, at least $100 profit a day.
