Mas Selamat's relatives aided escape

As usual, the PAP govt loves to smoke the people. This Sham Minister has shed nothing new and the whole MSK report to Parliament reveals nothing of value that has justified the length of time given to the auth to extract the truth from MSK.

What's so surprising about his relatives helping and harbouring him? Only the PAP expects us to believe that his loved and close members of his family would not harbour him. Did Shammulligan explain why the PAP police didnt put a tail on his family? Or didnt they? That shld be the first thing any smart police will do. What kind of police and Hoem Affairs do we have?

Next, Sham Minister spent an inordinate amount of time on the family members who helped him. The idea is to drag out the report and bore everyone and make people lose interest. PAP also wants to shift the focus to abetting the escape, so that less time is devoted to the "juicier" details. What about how he escaped the dragnet? Where did he go? What route did he use? How did he swim across? Nothing. Except to make excuses that MSK changed his story many times. What? The ultra-competent ISD can torture church acitivists but cannot handle a guy like Mas? Incredible isnt it?

And why is Sham Minister trying to manage the expectations of Singaporeans by playing down on the limit the PAP police can extract and by postponing the results of a more detailed accounting?

For fear that it will expose more inanity and idiocy of the state security machinery? For fear of voters' backlash?

Don't recall any mention how from Whitley Rd, MSK went to relatives' home - by taxi, bus, walk etc. No one saw him during the journey? MHA should have sounded the alert early so members of public could assist to look-out. I figure this wasn't done because had they arrested MSK soon after his escape, we won't read of this escape.

That seems to be the tactic now. Side step the main issues. Drop loads of red herrings like read long stories of how each member helped him. That is PAP. Like the Merger Referendum. They created their own Terms of ref and what to report and what not to dwell on. Then start shifting the blame on the people - MSK's family helping him so the police lost him.

Don't forget MSK had no money with him. How did he travel to Tampines? As far as I know, we have no free rides on taxis and buses. Even if we did, it is not possible no one came into contact with him before he arrived at Tampines.

For me, it is best not to lie or hide mistakes made coz you need many many more lies to cover up just one lie. MSK's escape and journey to JB is like our authorities being caught naked with no clothes or towel in sight to cover up.

He must have stolen a bicycle near Whitley and cycled to Tampines. In Tampines everyone will give way to him as it is a designated cycling town. Simple.

True, true. And yet no joker reported the loss of his bicycle! And the residents of that block did not report the sighting of a suspicious bicycle. No wonder WKS recently tested our alert level with 'suspicious' cars.

It'd be a marvel to see how a cripple balances himself on the bicycle. No disrepect to cripples intended, but I have a crippled neighbour who told me cripples couldn't and shouldn't be riding bicycles.

I can't believe that the family didn't give up Mas Selamat. Didn't have to turn him in then, but after he left their place.

If I was in their shoes, I would have kicked him out of the house. Refuse to help him without "snitching" on one's own family member.

Bro, riding bicycle for cripples difficult. But these days, it is much easier with motorised bicycles. If MSK stole a motorised bicycle from under the durian tree, why wasn't he charged for 'theft of motorised bicycle?' Maybe coz there was no complainant, eh?

Without a cutter (presumably), the only way he could steal a bicycle (motorised or not) is that the owner didn't lock it. Lock it or lose it, haven't you heard the advice? So the owner might be to embarrassed to complain.

If he had a cutter and was limping around with it to steal a bicycle, then I'd worry what the hell was both police and public doing or thinking.

Spot on - Its the brother's house. More than lapses.

The basic policing and intelligence strategy is to check the house of family members, even through covert means. Yes, very strange unless this relative was not listed as a relative from intelligence background checks. Lapses.

Any family member will not turn away any blood relatives. The Malays have been known to taken in the homeless, etc.

The durians nearby supposed to be 1st class. I suppose that chap cycled to Onraet Rd thinking it is the most secure area in S'pore minus Oxley Rise. That is why he did not lock his bicycle. I suspect he did not report loss of bicycle for fear that he might be charged for abetting the escape.

Yes and suddenly the whole of Singapore is now disappointed with his family for harbouring him. How did they come to this.

Cruxx, easier said than done. I would have done the same thing even though it is an offence. I think it is stated in law that if a person harbours his/her spouse, it is not an offence then.

Missed the Golden opportunity. His brother should have informed the police to capture Mas Selemat at his home and received the reward for S$1 million offered by MacDonald and share it with Mas Selamat 10 to 20 years later after his release from detention when he no longer a threat to Singapore.

Frankly, if my brother fought with someone and killed him over whatever dispute, if he wants to go to trial, I'd help him with a lawyer, if he wants to run, I'd probably help him to run too. However, if he plans to blow up train stations or airports, I'd personally escort him to IMH.

Splendid idea! But I think the reward stuff came much later. Not immediately after MSK escaped.

That is exactly right. Your point about IMH is spot on. Most people know when to stop helping their families. All they did was give him shelter, food and a little money. If they did not, most people who have thought of badly of them.

No one has the heart to turn away their own blood.
