This show you that the MIW just know how to show off and do things that will only benefit them. They treat the MCE as a showpiece to tell the world that the white gahmen is very capable and have lots of money to build the 8th wonder of the world. However, they forgot that the purpose of the MCE is for motorist to use and to improve the traffic flow.

The video of the MCE should have been released earlier. LTA could have sent a map of the MCE to every motorist showing clearly the entrances and exits of this new highway at least 1 week in advance so that people who are going to use this new highway are familiar with it.

This is really poor planning but I am not surprise! In recent years, there are just too many instances where we see the MIW reacting to problem rather than being proactive. From transport to employment, flood to haze and strikes to rioting, they only know how to react. The new motto of the MIW must be “Hoping for the best” but they do not “prepare for the worst”. At this rate that the MIW is shooting themselves in the foot, 2016 is getting brighter for the true bred Singaporeans with the opposition candidate looking a much better alternative. There is HOPE!

SINGAPORE - A drive that normally takes 20 minutes turned into a three-hour crawl.

A taxi ride that usually costs $16 ended up with a painful $60 payout.

With bottlenecks clogging the Marina Coastal Expressway's (MCE's) entrances and exits and a handful of accidents slowing traffic further along the way, MCE's second day of operation saw many motorists fuming.

Many were late for work.

The $4.3-billion MCE links the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) in the west, to the East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) in the east and is Singapore's costliest expressway to date, with five lanes in both directions.

Mr Ivan Toh, 38, said he takes around 20 minutes to drive from Commonwealth to his wife's office at Suntec City, but yesterday morning's trip took close to three hours.

Traffic ground to a crawl after he exited the MCE to get onto Central Boulevard, he said.

"It was a chokepoint, because you also have vehicles coming from the east funnelling into that exit. We spent more than two hours on a stretch of around 3km," added the engineer.

Civil servant Grace Chiang, 29, drove two hours to reach Sentosa from Marine Parade, a journey which she said typically takes 20 minutes. Another said that she had to pay a taxi fare of $60 for a jouney that usually costs $16, because she was caught in traffic.

To improve traffic circulation in the road network adjoining the MCE, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday that a short stretch of Central Boulevard will be immediately converted from two lanes to four lanes.

Even if LTA hadn't cocked up with the design of MCE, the fact is that a huge population will inevitably result in a huge traffic congestion.

I shudder to think what would happen when it hits 6.9 million people. The number of vehicles increases in tandem with the number of people.

lack of Directional sign, before you approach the next turn be it left of right
Directional sign should be there to direct motorists... if you look at US expressway
their Directional sign is so good even stranger like me can drive!!

Sinkiepore such a short distance cant even direct motorist to the correct lane,
fcukard LTA scholar planning.

GREED must have partly accounted for it. The rush to open before year end has, perhaps, the need to complete their KPI and get their fcuking performance bonus - from the CEO to the Lui Fcuk Yew. Where is the man, by the way?

Only 2 days ago at the opening ceremony, Josephine Teo bragged about how expensive, how tough the job, how deep the tunnel, how much earth excavated, and a host of other superlatives about the project. All for the sake of scoring political points for her incompetent and useless PAPaya Party, and hopefully rubbing some of it onto herself.

That is what our white peegs are good for – endless bragging and scoring points while causing untold problems and difficulties to Sinkapooreans; all at world-record-busting cost to us taxpayers!

The newly-opened Marina Coastal Expressway's acronym may well stand for "Messy Confusing Expressway".

On the first work day since the $4.3 billion undersea highway opened on Sunday, motorists found themselves caught in traffic snarls of a scale uncommon in Singapore.

Tweets and Facebook posts flew fast and furious, with one taxi commuter complaining that she had to fork out $60 in fare because of the jam - for a journey that usually cost her $16.

When The Straits Times checked during lunch time Monday, traffic flow was smooth in the north-south stretch, where the MCE joins the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).

But there were obvious problem areas where it joined the East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).

Motorists on the ECP heading for the AYE have to negotiate a sharp left to enter the MCE. This caused many to apply their brakes or slow down, causing a minor queue to form there.

Traffic signs at the entrance may have contributed to the problem. A sign above one lane read "MCE to AYE", while the another in the adjacent lane read "MCE to Central Boulevard". This caused more weaving and braking.

Eastbound, traffic slowed to a trickle at the Fort Road exit. Most of the vehicles in the MCE in this section seem headed for the exit, which has only two lanes (out of the total five).

Further up the exit, a third lane forms that leads to Fort Road, which had a queue stretching all the way into the tunnel. The tailback affected traffic flow on the other lanes leading to Changi.

Clearly inadequate in coping with the noon-time traffic volume, the exit caused a jam that spread to lanes leading to the KPE.

Motorists heading for the ECP via the MCE after work this evening should brace themselves for a repeat of Monday morning's saga. They may want to find alternatives (such as the Pan-Island Expressway), or travel later.

I've not seen anywhere in the world where the purpose of an expressway/freeway/motorway is to create more traffic congestion.
