Even though a lot of first world countries are broke, they are still the least populated places on earth. Plus with their already built up infrastructure it's easier for them to get back in the black.

Asia as a whole is more fucked up because it's over-hyped and overpopulated. Only a handful are rich. The average man in se asia still don't have the ooputunities as his counterpart in a first world cuntry and will never will.

At the end of the day even with the lack of money, the 1st world cuntries/ western cuntries still have the most land/ food/ fresh water and talented people. Asia will drown in its own garbage and poop.

Somewhere in the 70's I started hearing the term "latch key kids". Back then most moms were housewifes . So this term was used to describe homes where both parent had to work. It was usually where the husband didn't make enough & the wife's income was necessary to pay the bills.

Today it is common to have both parents working. Is this progress Or is it regression
Is life in Sporeans so expensive that they have to leave their kids with a maid & go off to work?

Not only gainly employed, some even are running business at 60's, I have friends too, over there. Over here, 35 plus, the expiry date on your label becomes today....

On 89 yo farker already past the expiry date of 55 but very toxic to singaporeans,must be discarded into Tuas Incineration Plant immediately, for the happiness and prosperity of all Singaporeans.

hahaha....johnny, this depends on the sector/industry......many sinkaporean in their sixties are still gainfully employed in the marine & offshore sector.

I dunno how this First World thing and Sg became associated. And this First World thing - how did this come about?

According to my Ah Kong, shortly after the Cold War started, some countries sided with US, others with the Soviet Union, and some didn't. Those that didn't associate with either (don't know which ones - Ah Kong has since passed on) became known as Third World Countries. Without aid from either power, and with CIA and KGB meddling with local warlords, these countries became poor. So Third World became the word used to describe poor countries. But First World? What about Second World countries? Is there such a thing?

Can somebody throw some light on this First World and Singapore thingy? How is Singapore a First World Country? And what makes a country First World?

healthcare should be done out of sinkieland.. why pay so much for sub standard care?

Thailand will be a good place for healthcare. I have never done and healthcare in sinkieland..all my dental and health screening are done in unsinkified land which is so much better.

tony, one of my staff was down with a flu on thursday. Sent her to a private hospital in LOS and the bill comes up to THB 2700 for consultation, blood test and medication. LOS private medical care can be quite expensive or even more expensive than Sinkeeland. The good thing is the service is fantastic.

I'm not in that sector & would really be surprised if what you say is true. How were they able to prevent the foreigners from taking their jobs

there is shortage of pple at those levels.

No one is really indispensible, even LKY
Whether you keep your job is to a large extent due to how successful you are tied into the network. So if your boss, co-workers, clients,... like your work, you will likely continue to be around.

The trouble is that in many businesses people are expandable & when your boss goes, you may be next because his replacement has his own kakis. So I assume that the business you are talking about is more like a small exclusive club where relationships is important.

much as I believe that automation does increase efficiency, I think the human touch is still important. with that in mind, are we training enough healthcare personnel to cope with the increasing demands? a wait at the polyclinic takes approximately two hours these days. what happens when we hit 7m folks on our sunny lil' isle?

It's not about the quantity of the population, it's about the quality of the population. If you visit polyclinic and glance through the two-hour queue, most of them are ablebodied fit like fighting demons except they happened to have a diarhoea or constipation or something like that this morning, many even just imaginary not feeling well. Some are there as a routine as they have become addicted hobbyists, it's a pass-time for them. Some are there plain malingering for MCs.

This is a peculiarly Chinese disease. Only in countries or cities with huge Chinese communities can you find this phenomenon. Clinics jammed packed everyday with queues by the hour and at the end of the day, almost everybody is alright except a few genuine cases needing medical attention.

your ah kong a bit incorrect, countries who didnt allied to the Nato or soviet bloc maybe belong to the Non-Aligned Movement, formed by Tito. Together with Nehru, Nasser, Nkrumah and Sukarno, five of them are the founding members.

sorry to side track, a bro posted a GAMM story abt increasing number of nursing students but how many can take the initial hardship after graduting? One of my neighbour daugther went thru NYP nursing course, last less than 6mths as nurse and now a customer service provider.

No need medisave or medishield, it's practically free from cough to cancer, just pay a token fee. And the PRC government isn't complaining anything about their healthcare subsidy budget. The healthcare systemic problem is an American disease, not a Chinese disease. Singapore is following the American model of making doctors millionnaires. Why? Because doctors are allowed into politics and political lobbies. That corrupts doctors who in cohort with insurers rocketed heathcare costs whereas insurers can sell bigger policies at higher premiums. It began in USA, my friend.

They contribute monthly to a medical fund or insurance, something like that or a retirement fund, I forgot, for I had spoken to a PRC person before, asking about healthcare, retirement etc...it is not free, last time when they will true bloooded communist, maybe.
