Re: gang clash in geylang ........ soc activated ..... many arrested ..... will be CL

Welcome back, bro!!

Geylang will always be my second home. Last time, there was a time it even became my first home. My fondest memories will be of Geylang. That is HOME to me!

Last time you could walk from Lorong 4 all the way to Lorong 28 and there would be so many types of people you can see, so many stories to tell your buddies. The atmosphere was there. Now, just feel the whole place is over-commercialised and something has gone.

Thank you sir,
I honestly loved Geylang too. From the former Queens Cinema and the Teochew Muay tiam infront right till my favourite Hokkien Mee, Duck Head and Satay at Lorong 29, Geylang.
This was my favourite areas until little by little foreigners came in and took over everything.
The beautiful Malaysian girls from Sitiawan, Ipoh all left.
Today we have "daylight robbers" and others.
I am getting old and cannot run far.
Thanks for your kind words bro, Have a nice day.

I have said many times before that Geylang is "getting out of hand". I am getting tired.
The PAP has triumphed in the recent elections. The Opposition were shabbily treated by the People.
Why not allow Geylang to become a breakaway part with its own cheng-hoo lang, "judiciary" and executive.
There are so many foreigners there. They can form a "union" government there.

welcome back, sir!

If you have time, go down to a corner coffeeshop in your shorts and t-shirt and nurse a beer after 12midnight. Nobody will disturb you but you would have a birdseye view of what is going on. Do it a couple of times and you more or less can piece it together - basically black economy in progress.

Yes on the policy for vice. It was in place long since the 70s, with areas designated etc. Anti-Vice was at various times under direct correct control of MHA and not the CP. However MHA staff did not have the experience to control Police Officers and it fell over - corruption. The first time was a well respected Sr Officer, the type you see in Church. Second time they put the most senior female Officer and she too fell, again the call of the loin.

If the can clean a longkakng like Kallang River, they can clean Geylang but the fear is that there is no safety valve for human release. Policy formulation includes input from State psychologist and Sociologist.

Makes absolute sense - was surprised that the cabbie was insisting that they have taken over with impunity and then the AT opened the taxi door which caught me by surprise. It will be interesting when foot soldiers learn the ropes and then feel bold enough to try and take over. Same happened in Amsterdam and London for e.g. when the Turks and Moroccans have muscled into the drugs after serving as lookouts and in the latter the Albanians and Kosovans decided to push out the Turks who run the heroin trade.

Actually a similar scenario would be the same ATs who moved to London in the late 90s - they learned the trade in particular the illegal gambling dens and then decided that it was time to take over and tried to push the Big Five out of Soho...bloody times.

On a related note, the sex dens in Woodlands have been there for more than decade as well if I remember correctly - I've been told it has been largely tolerated as a necessary outlet for low wage workers who ultimately are in their 20s and with the raging hormones need the release - otherwise the potential for sexual related assaults spiking on this little red dot. So every now and then there is a clamp-down but it is not a "new discovery" - the only thing I can think of is the sale of contraband cigs which in this country is regarded as worse than murder almost - an exaggeration but loss of tax dollars is simply not tolerable for our overlords.

Good to see you again bro.

Any chance you can start a thread on the old Singapore and we get a fix on nostalgia. I am sure others will contribute.

Yes, agree what you stated below. Basically the black economy brings in cheap labour that allows many of the small food stalls and trades to survive. In the late 90s, checks on Malaysian workers were relaxed to allow them to work in food outlets. This was the direct result of a plate of chicken rice shooting past $3. This was during GCT's time. Subsequently it fell to $2 and there was even promo of $1. Cost of food again started going up and Tiongs were allowed Unfortunately the controls went out the door. Price of hawker food has always been highly political and grassroots are main pressure groups.

I will sit down and think of something nostalgic from the good old past when we bought things weighed in katis.
We should get together and pen our thoughts together.
Our grandchildren must know the good old Singapore under Lim Yew Hock, Marshall till Lee took over. Memories of my interview at Boustead Singapore for a job as policeman on Christmas Island. My thought of joining Brunei Police Force, Admiralty POlice (Naval Base) and even PSA Police.
Finally it was SPF and I enjoyed every moment working with the people and patrolling the kampons deep in Bah Soon Pah Road where there were trees filled with durians, mangosteens, rambutans and farms filled with ducks and chickens.
The common sighting of pigs running wild, sight of the familiar hatted "Ah Pek" with a male pig tagging along as a service to the farmers to impregnate their young pigs.
That was life then. But is must go on.
I will come back......

There is black economy in every country in the world but in sinkie land, it is surprising the pappies let it flourish. During the era of LKY, the rogues were whacked but under present pappies leadership, they are tolerated to the extent that the foreign rogues, the pinoys, the vietcongs, the tiongs, the ah nehs are now running all over the island. Is the PID sleeping on their job, unaware of the rot in the country?

In the past foreigners were not allowed into the black economy. Anti Vice was even stationed at the Airport and they turn away single females from Thailand, Philippines after interviewing them. Only authorised ones from Malaysia and Thailand were allowed in but must operate in designated places. For those operating all those illegal activities in backlands were all locals.

Under LHL, it got really bad. Anybody and everybody can come in. Look at Joo Chiat.

..I have deep respect for the police force until very recent years, long after those I knew are retired or expired ( passed away)....the SPF os not the same anymore...

Mata mata in sinapo are like school boys. Running away when confronted by rioters. In USA, the cops would have fired first and collect rioters' corpse later. No running away. Softie mata mata breeds contempt for the lawmen and the laws.

This was what I was discussing with people when I saw the video of the rioters plus reading the 'news'....honestly!..if you are on patrol....you see a group of angry people charging at you, carrying & throwing whatever 'missiles' they have..would you, draw whatever arms you have....fire warning shots first right? then....if they still charge....take down one , the rest would either stop or flee right??....but to hide in....hmm!

Maybe or SPF is so advance or so compassionate in the world.......they....
