Why activate the soc? Let the gangs kill each other. The only good gangster is a dead gangster.

I have a young relative who joined the FORCE ( not star wars), with good paper qualifications, who than later UPGRADED to more paper qualifications & got promoted upwards. Started with one kid & a motorcycle, now driving a "GERMAN MADE CAR" & 3 kids....you think this kind of character will want risk life or get information to solve cases on the ground??...yes, SERVING THE PEOPLE....how to? with so much at risks, car, children & lovely house, good pay, bonuses, allowances etc ( platinum rice bowl)??

No to mention....became rally polly....you thing an example like this who live in the 'tower' above ground....would want to walk the ground & risk their salary, their career & life?.. get the picture!...

There are plenty BOZO the clowns in there..

Is to prevent corruption! Pulis on the take how? Very messy for the PAP. If you were minister, you say corruption better, or incompetence better? A little bit of the latter is always more acceptable.

Why deprive the biggest "gangster" of the fun?

GD - curious to know though how are the Ah Tiongs involved in the going-ons in Geylang? A couple of cabbies I encountered mentioned how threatening and brazen these Ah Tiongs had become especially since they had started "taking over" coffee shops and even more so those who have been laid off and were desperate for cash.
One cabbie even mentioned the trick of throwing themselves in front of cabs to extort money. Ironically as he was telling me this we were at the traffic light at Rochor and some Ah Tiong pulled open the cabbie's door and when he saw me quickly shut it. I have never encountered that before. The cabbie was shaken because he said he thought he was going to get his face slashed as he had heard of a number of such incidents in Geylang.

I have not been down there for abit but the last time I was it was Tiongland from Aljunied MRT station onwards with ATs on their motorised bicycles riding against the flow of traffic, ATs congregated on sidewalks....it was quite shocking to see

these tiongs are linked to the gangs in geylang. some even work for them in selling contraband cigs, cough mixture, drugs etc. ditto viets. as these businesses are illegal, look-outs also needed. some are placed at strategic locations, others on patrol with their motorised bicycles.

if you sit long enough and observe, these tiongs and viets will 'report' to a local. has been so the past decade. i am certain none of these FTs can operate illegally on their own.

some of the gambling operators even employ nehs and banglas to operate their biz. a local will always be nearby to observe and ensure no cbt takes place.

same in many foreign countries. not easy to operate unless local gangs back you up.

Makes absolute sense - was surprised that the cabbie was insisting that they have taken over with impunity and then the AT opened the taxi door which caught me by surprise. It will be interesting when foot soldiers learn the ropes and then feel bold enough to try and take over. Same happened in Amsterdam and London for e.g. when the Turks and Moroccans have muscled into the drugs after serving as lookouts and in the latter the Albanians and Kosovans decided to push out the Turks who run the heroin trade.

Actually a similar scenario would be the same ATs who moved to London in the late 90s - they learned the trade in particular the illegal gambling dens and then decided that it was time to take over and tried to push the Big Five out of Soho...bloody times.

On a related note, the sex dens in Woodlands have been there for more than decade as well if I remember correctly - I've been told it has been largely tolerated as a necessary outlet for low wage workers who ultimately are in their 20s and with the raging hormones need the release - otherwise the potential for sexual related assaults spiking on this little red dot. So every now and then there is a clamp-down but it is not a "new discovery" - the only thing I can think of is the sale of contraband cigs which in this country is regarded as worse than murder almost - an exaggeration but loss of tax dollars is simply not tolerable for our overlords.

If you see any Ah Tiong chinks breaking the law, inform your local neighbourhood watch grassroots volunteer. Do not attempt to confront the gangsters on your own regardless how indignant you are over their criminal activities.

that may happen here too but i dont see it coming soon. whoever starts an ah tiong gang here will likely be a pr or citizen n will see the business angle more than clashes and protection s motivating factor.

the many currently in geylang doing the works are overstayers and IIs.

ssb/cid is taichi-ing case to bedok police div. case classified as rioting armed with deadly weapons under s 148 of the penal code. headmen from both sides told to settle themselves and not to escalate. good advice from the cops as both have the numbers to create havoc.

all over drinking and staring incidents! no brains.

I have said many times before that Geylang is "getting out of hand". I am getting tired.
The PAP has triumphed in the recent elections. The Opposition were shabbily treated by the People.
Why not allow Geylang to become a breakaway part with its own cheng-hoo lang, "judiciary" and executive.
There are so many foreigners there. They can form a "union" government there.

Welcome back, bro!!

Geylang will always be my second home. Last time, there was a time it even became my first home. My fondest memories will be of Geylang. That is HOME to me!

Last time you could walk from Lorong 4 all the way to Lorong 28 and there would be so many types of people you can see, so many stories to tell your buddies. The atmosphere was there. Now, just feel the whole place is over-commercialised and something has gone.
