He was very pissed with lack of government effort to promote local singers and songwriters. He hit a peak in popularity the late 90s with his Life Story song for OAC TV advert, but wasn't supported and recognised well enough by government. So he turned anti-government.
In recent years, he has reconciled with government after being invited to be Singapore Idol judge and perform at NDP. Of course, he won't sing that song at NDP, or anywhere else ever again, unless he's unhappy with government again.
