Cyclist died after crashing into stationary lorry in Changi

Got car drivers also died when they whack into rear of stationary lorries. Darwinism at work.

A lack of awareness of one's surroundings is a very poor way to live your life, and it may prematurely shorten it.

You need to be aware when you're driving, cycling, walking... even when you're sitting down. You need to pick up on the sounds and smell, and to instinctively sense who/what is creeping up behind you.

An urban lifestyle has dulled our senses. I have seen countless idiots overly engrossed on their phones while climbing an overhead bridge. They weren't even looking at the steps or the people around them.

A lot of cycling groups do the raceing wannabe drafting thingy which is essentially looking at your aero bars or at the backside in front of you

Dying in style?

Fucking cyclist.

Dress like don't know what and think it's so cool with those shades.

Riding a bicycle also can die.

Might as well take a 1000cc sports bike do it like a real man and whack the back of a lorry to bits!

There was a thread on SBF a few months back where it was pointed out that a cyclist was killed when he slammed into the back of a lorry on Changi Coastal Road. It seems that the same accident on the same road has occurred. Also of note, the cyclist mentioned then was 28yo. This time the cyclist is 29yo. One coincidence too many.

Unfortnately,..the fatailies, carnage WILL continue here in Singapore, simply beause there are simply too many dick-head ARROGANT road-users,..from the little cyclist,..way up to the bus drivers, and bigg truck drivers.

All these unfortunate incidents, are only feeding into the economy of ambulance busines, police, judiciary,..medical mechanics & the undertakers.

The only solution : address the psychology of a road users here.

Thank You & Do Have a Nice Day

then how? cyclists have no place on the pavements. the roads are too tight to accommodate cyclists. the very clever LTA solves congestion by adding more lanes to the existing lanes.

it's not safe to cycle on the road. it is not safe to be in an ambulance as well coz there is no space for road users to give way to them!

If that is the case, Aero bars should be banned,,,

Yes you're right Aero bar are danger to other cyclists especially in group cycling!
He's probably looking down and not looking in the front, the truck parked along
coastal double yellow line. He broke away from his friends my guess and no one
shouted "FORE" and he crashed into the rear of the truck!

Rest in Peace! condolences to the family! very sad indeed on a Black Monday!

Sadly these things happen not only here but everywhere. I recall even cars ramming stationary vehicles including a case where one rammed a slow moving convoy of heavily loaded trailers escorted by Cisco Outriders. All fatal.

However concerned about drafting that I see in places where it should not be done.

Aerobars are a death trap. We have a 54 year old in our group who is brain damaged for life because he was on his aerobars when a car turned into his path. There are no brake levers on aerobars only gear shifters. He couldn't slow down in time and ploughed into the windscreen.

I thot TS wants to conduct poll again to be sensitive not to post deadman's gory pics.

Lorries, commercial vehicles, bicycles and motorbikes should all be banned from the roads. For our and their own good.

He was using a Tribike with aerobars. Such bikes gives the rider a very aerodynamic profile to reduce drag to make him ride faster. The downside is that the body posture makes him look on the floor.

The cyclist simply did not look up and therefore did not see the lorry.

hi there

1. chick, regardless what attire the deceased had on.
2. sinkie roads are just not for any cyclists.
3. cyclists are so exposed on sinkie roads.

agree!
TOTAL BAN of all bicycles on the roads.
BAN motorbikes from the expressways.
Restrict timing that all heavy vehicles can be on the roads.
Sinkieland roads will be alot more safer for everyone.

The solution is to to ban all cyclist from the roads. Can only cycle in designated parks etc. Tour de france type cycling should be outlawed. Singapore roads are for cars and no space for cyclists. They want to cycle that way,,,they do it in Frog land.

In our group, we tactfully tell them not to change to aerobars. Those who are keen will move to other groups. The guys who are keen on personal time targets and gung-ho about it will eventually move to aerobars.

I actually after these accidents I am with Hypocrite about banning aerobars except in trials and competitions. These guys cannot help themselves.

These guys are crazy. The place is full of polluted air and as you rightly pointed out, heavy vehicles.

A favorite place these angmor cyclist like to cycle is the West Coast highway. Every morning sure to encounter them. Cycling double-file, cycling in packs.

Accident waiting to happen. A lot of heavy vehicles use the same highway at the same hour. Wonder if it is legally allowed to cycle on these highways.

I think the cyclist is an incompetent piece of shit for whacking into an object that size, stationary on top of it! However, what the fuck is the lorry doing parked on a road with double-yellow lines?

Riding bicycles on Peesai's roads is a deathwish if you ask me. I find it really congested and crowded. Cyclists, ride at your own peril.

Cheers!

Now days service vehicles that carry out maintenance work on major roads and highways and often are stationary or slow moving have special cushion or impact absorbing pad at the vehicle rear. It goes to show common these occurrences. At speed you sometimes cannot tell how close an object that in front is until it is too late.
