Naked woman perched on ledge in Toa Payoh

SINGAPORE - A naked woman sat on a sixth storey ledge of a HDB flat for more than one and a half hours yesterday, as alarmed neighbours looked on.

The incident happened at a block of flats around Toa Payoh yesterday at 9am.

A Lianhe Wanbao reader sent in a photo of the scene showing a naked woman perched precariously on the ledge below the kitchen window.

Below her were SCDF personnel and police who had rushed on the scene. They were setting up an inflatable mattress below her.

The reader told Wanbao she had initially thought there was a fire at a neighbouring block, but upon closer look, found the woman sitting on the ledge between the fifth and sixth storeys of the block.

"She was so high up, everyone was worried she was going to jump," said the reader.

Another eye-witness, an 82-year-old retiree who stays in the same block, said the woman was crying and mumbled to herself at times.

The retiree said the woman did not seem to care about the danger and continued to move her legs about. She said the situation was tense and everyone watching was nervous.

The woman was eventually pulled to safety by an SCDF personnel.

According to Wanbao, the woman, 45, is a housewife of Indian ethnicity and stays on the sixth floor unit.

Police say the woman has been admitted to Tan Tock Seng and has been arrested for attempted suicide.

In a separate incident yesterday, a man was spotted dangling precariously from the top floor of a HDB block before he was eventually pulled to safety by his friends.

The police had received a call at about 6pm on Sunday, requesting for assistance at Block 144, Teck Whye Avenue.

According to an eyewitness who wrote in to Stomp, "one ambulance, two police cars, and two fire engines arrived at the scene just when the guy's friends pulled him back up."

An Indian man in his early 50s was arrested for attempted suicide, the police said.

I thought so too. Landlord pays the comm. Yes, we are back in JB, managed to pacify my wife. Looking at getting a personal, portable alarm.

Welcome back! Be vigilant without being paranoid. There is much to explore and enjoy ... take it easy.
Good health to you all

PObox address is given by Singpost, you rent a box like a school locker. Go there pick up your mail. There are limitations because some organizations (esp. billing or even acra etc) require a full address.
VOD is similar except it offers a full address. The companies that offer this will tag on more services for your needs esp. if you use it for your start-up business as well.
In terms of pricing, the latter is more value for money, convenience (all will notify you whenever a mail arrives by mobile and/or email) although it is a hassle should the company fold/shift whereas POboxes tend to last more than the lifetime of the box.

Oic thanks for the info.

Looks ok to me but if you are thinking of turning it on a lot, then 1x2HP and 1x1.5HP or just 1x2.5HP if you don't really turn it on that much. Reason for this is at least if you just turn on 1 aircon unit(2HP), it should bring down the temperature enough to feel comfortable for 1-2 folks. If you have lots of people and activity though (1 person = 1 light inc. bulb approximately) then you have to start with something more powerful, 2.5 is definitely ok.

Master bed room 2HP sounds a bit overkill. 1.5hp should be just right.

Thanks wuqi.

I guess rm100K to rm120K should be sufficient , inclusive of furniture . For me I spent about RM60K only , basic things like lighting , air cons , grills , built in cabinets , TVs , sofa , bedroom sets , gardens plants .

Thanks jason. For your Rm60k, can share what is the rough breakdown like, especially the cost of doing the grilles? I did a rough estimate based on Jusco prices that air-con will cost about Rm9k based on the configuration i was asking wuqi.

Hi to all brothers, I am encountering some problems.. Recently one singaporean malay moved his whole family next door, his wife and 2 kids... The studio apartment wall is quite thin.. The guy very big sized, banging things all over the place... 4 people how to squeeze into one small shoe box? Can't blame him also... The place so small, need to pack 4 people.. How not to be noisy? He looks quite fierce also, I am quite scared of him.. Dunno what to do...

if I wish to move upstairs or another place, I just have to forfeit the one month deposit and the agent has to let me go? I will get back my utilities deposit right?

The first 2 months here was quite peaceful, but now very noisy.. Even at night, I hear foot steps of the man.. Maybe wake up to feed the kid or what I dunno.. The kids also very noisy, but can't blame them... Quite noisy... The studio apartment really not suitable for one whole family to squeeze in like this.. Now I am contemplating moving away... I thought studio apartment only singles and couples stay.. But I didn't know one whole family can just pack inside like this..

Quite surprised he chose to stay here also, as he has a PHD... Now apparently PHD also lose out to FT, needs to move to JB with whole family.. I am thinking of a way out.. Any advice?

precisely why i prefer landed property. after having lived in hdb and condo, i wonder why they are those who come to iskandar to look for apartment? u hv no choice who is your next door neighbor.

U sure he got PhD? More like Permanent Head Damage. Actually I do foresee your plight. You see, not that I am looking down on studio flats/apartments etc. But when u live in budget housing, you get funny characters.. In Singapore, if u stay in places like Chai chee etc, u see CNB raids, dadahs jumping off HDBs just to escape from raids etc.. and its very common. That is the reason why I dont even dare to hang around the city centre for fear of safety. Even the new KSL city, I have not and dont intend to patronise as this part of Nusajaya that I am hanging out is relatively safety than most of JB city centre.[/QUOTE]

The story of the guy really doesn't add up... PHD holder, doesn't want to send kids to school, wants to spend most of his time enjoying taking care of his kids in this small apartment... Even when I see him, I do not dare look at him... He got into an altercation with someone before.. Very fierce looking guy.. I am staying alone, so I thought a studio apartment would be fine... Noone here stays like that... Even the guard who makes 1kRM per month told me 4 people is too much... And somemore that chap is very big sized...

The first 2 weeks he was here, at 6am he would push out the trolley on the common corridor.. Imagine how much noise that makes... And open close the gate 5 times in a row.. Rental here is not expensive, why did he choose such a small place for his family, something I do not understand.. And he and his wife are not exactly petite, they are quite big sized.. How is it possible they can get used to living in such conditions.. This studio apartment is smaller than a 1 room rental flat in Singapore.. I am thinking of talking to my friend down the same row, he is a very nice man.. He used to be on the management committee..

Sometimes I don't really blame them.. After all, its 4 people(2 big sized) in one small place.. I am not sure what they do inside to cause those loud bangs, but do they consider the feelings of others? They are singaporean also..

What can I do now? Don't think my mum will have much sympathy for me, even if I tell her my problems..

Somehow, I got a hunch that the new Coastal Highway is going for a soft launch opening in the next few weeks or so. Hope to test the new Coastal Highway and see the time need for me to travel from HH to Tuas. This morning saw the webcam at Tuas entering Singapore at 7am, oh my god it was jammed packed all the way... Lucky I dont clear Tuas at 7am, mostly after 830am or before 6am when there are no jams

from bukit indah exit towards HH with elevation still in soil, the bitumen has not been laid down as yet just the sat past.

Re: Living in JB

There are several salesperson in HH. If she is on leave or MC etc, you can drop by the sales office and talk to anyone who is willing to help. One thing to note, HH sales persons are not the most helpful around in Nusajaya. Also, taking leave, MCs, compassionate leave etc are quite common in this part of the world. The township guy whom deals with my house handing over, within 2 months, he took more than 15 days of leave, MCs, urgent leave, compassionate leave etc. I had a BIG problem even talking to him on the phone and I cant talk to another one as he handles my case directly and knows what is going on.

I begin to dream what my life will be if I live in HH.. I pick up the phone last Friday to make an appointment to see HH. I guess only buying a house there will ease my sleepless problem.. However this morning just before I set off to JB, the sales person in HH said she have to go for urgent leaves.. Will go down to HH probably next week..

GAAM: Japanese interested in Iskandar property
By ZAZALI MUSA

... He said Johor Baru or Iskandar Malaysia still had ample land for future developments with the prices of properties here still cheaper compared with Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Fujimura said since setting up its office here last September, about 300 of its Japanese clients had visited Johor Baru and many had shown strong interest to invest in the property market in Iskandar Malaysia.

“They are attracted to Johor Baru's close proximity to Singapore which is a popular destination among Japanese and also the long term prospects of Iskandar Malaysia,'' he told StarBizWeek.

Fujimura said this after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with United Malaysian Land Bhd's subsidiary Seri Alam Properties Sdn Bhd at the Wealth of Iskandar Malaysia Conference recently.

Seri Alam Properties will develop 110 units of bungalows on an 8.09ha site overlooking a lake in Bandar Seri Alam township in Pasir Gudang with a gross development value between RM200mil and RM400mil.

The project is known as Japanese Holiday Homes with each bungalow having a built-up area of 2,200 sq ft and a land size of 4,500 sq ft with its own swimming pool and a club house.

GAAM is a subsidiary of Global Asset Asia Investment Ltd (GAAI), a holding company incorporated in Hong Kong whose clients are mostly high net worth Japanese investors.

“It (the group) has 10,000 cash-rich Japanese clients who are serious investors and always on the look-out to enhance their investment portfolios,'' said Fujimura.

GAAM general manager Takahiro Sakanoue said this was the company's second purchase in the Johor Baru market after the acquisition of two high end luxury condominium blocks of Molek Pine 3, in Taman Molek for RM200mil early this year.

Btw, are there fellow contributors here who are staying at Austin Heights?

There is a 24 hrs Mcdonald's coming up. Construction of the new building beside the international school is real fast.... not that we need it as there are many 24 hrs eateries around. But it is a good addition - occasional visits perhaps ....

oh? i mean if we can drive into medini districts. =)
been to the puteri harbor side nice and peaceful. maybe one day i'll do the building tour of the JNSAC.

If you are talking the various districts there then I don't think got much to see at the moment. they have a masterplan of the medini district at the putreri harbor office. This might be out dated as I went there about 6 months ago. The sales person said the only confirmed development at the time was the 2 tower block condo, a hotel - east side of the harbour edge. Cant remember the price but not cheap. What struck me was the maintenance fees is 50 cents psf! So 500 RM maintenance fees for a 1000 sqft condo - that is a new benchmark for Johor if it materialises.

The only thing in the Medini district right now are the infrastructure that they are building - roads, sewerage, etc. The rest of it are cleared flat lands. The recent spate of news items about Medini means we will see more developments there in the years to come. But right now, just bare lands.

See here for more details (with maps).
Medini North is near Legoland, Lego Hotel, Gleneagles Medini Hospital & the Lifestyle Retail Mall.

Btw, how can we paste pictures at this forum? I have difficulties figuring out how to do it.

MEDIA RELEASE
Khazanah and Temasek announce strategic joint investments in real estate

Khazanah and Temasek commit to joint developments in Iskandar Malaysia and Singapore

Singapore, 27 June 2011 – Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”) and Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited (“Temasek”) are pleased to announce the establishment of M+S Pte Ltd (“M+S”) and Pulau Indah Ventures Sdn Bhd (“Pulau Indah”).

Owned 60:40 by Khazanah and Temasek respectively, M+S will develop land parcels in Marina South and Ophir-Rochor in Singapore. Pulau Indah, a 50:50 joint venture between Khazanah and Temasek, will develop projects in Iskandar Malaysia in Johor.

These joint developments were supported by the Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Singapore in their Joint Statements of 24 May 2010, 22 June 2010, 20 September 2010 and 27 June 2011.

M+S develops two key sites in Singapore

M+S Pte Ltd will develop four land parcels in Marina South and two land parcels in Ophir Rochor, each as an integrated development.

An indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of UEM Land Holdings Berhad (“UEM Land”), a real estate company within Khazanah’s portfolio, and an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree”), a Temasek portfolio company, have been appointed to oversee the marketing and development of the project at Marina South. For the Ophir-Rochor site, UEM Land and an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of CapitaLand Limited (“CapitaLand”), another Temasek portfolio company, have been appointed to oversee the marketing and development.

Khazanah and Temasek are both committed to the successful commercialisation of these land parcels, which will include office, residential, hotel and retail components.

The gross development value of the project with a permitted gross floor area (“Permitted GFA”) of up to 501,020 sqm is estimated at approximately SGD11 billion (RM27 billion), subject to design and development plans.

Pulau Indah develops two new sites in Iskandar Malaysia

Khazanah and Temasek have worked together since last May to identify suitable sites in Iskandar Malaysia for joint commercial development. Two sites, one in Medini North and the other at the Heritage Cluster in Medini Central, have been confirmed.

Pulau Indah intends to develop serviced apartments, a corporate training centre, and commercial, retail, residential and wellness-related offerings on these sites. Khazanah and Temasek are currently in discussions and negotiations with potential partners and operators for the various components to maximize the commercial potential of the location.

The gross development value of the Iskandar project with a Permitted GFA of up to 1,365,675 sqm is estimated at approximately RM3 billion, subject to design and development plans.

Planning and design works for the projects had commenced in 1Q/2011. With the signing of these agreements today, the projects will move towards design and further implementation and delivery of the initial phases over the next five years.

Khazanah’s Managing Director, Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hj Mokhtar, said: “We are honoured to be undertaking these exciting developments at these key sites in Singapore and Iskandar Malaysia with our counterparts from Singapore, Temasek Holdings. The development in Iskandar with Temasek will be highly complementary and builds on the momentum of existing and planned projects in Iskandar Malaysia, in which Khazanah has been involved since 2006. Both these projects mark our first joint development investment with Temasek, and we look forward to a strong and fruitful partnership in both Singapore and Iskandar Malaysia.”

Ms Ho Ching, Executive Director & CEO of Temasek, added: “Both the Khazanah and Temasek teams put in tremendous effort, working very closely together to develop the best ideas possible for our joint projects. We were also very fortunate to have the expert and highly professional support of leading real estate companies like UEM Land from Malaysia as well as Mapletree and CapitaLand from Singapore. I am also especially grateful for the guidance, advice and support of very experienced industry leaders who will guide the Singapore developments as key Board members of M+S. I look forward to the successful development of the projects both in Johor as well as Singapore."
