Actually Yong held firm over 2 years. He was called up twice and warned. The pope was then notified and nothing happened.

Vincent Cheng is one of the most honest man that you will ever meet. He began life intending to be a priest but became a social worker. He was relentless in his approach to help a fellow man who needed trouble.

I am sure the people who put this case together must be wondering why they did it.

Communism is a wonderful ideal as it believes in the equality of man and the right to be treated fairly. However it is not practical and those who have followed in its path have meandered badly and the ideology is badly tainted.

Lenin made the first mistake by calling for violence to achieve their goals. It was also his last mistake as Communism from then on lost its meaning.

Vincent was no communist. He was just seeking fairness and justice.

in a nutshell...Harry did not appear that interested in the so called "Marxists' 22"...he appeared much more interested in the 4 priests, what they had been up to and the consequences and impact that they created...in fact i gather Harry actually alluded to some of the "22" as "do gooders"...some were apparently even termed "unconscious conspirators"...as for Judge Sam, apart fm being an ok chap out of court, i gather he is a v keen numismatist wif a valuable collection of old straits coins...

oh yes n i wonder what the likes of Tommy Koh n the late David Marshall shall be thinking after reading these texts...same goes for PAP catholics at that material time:the late Eddy Barker, George Yeo, Lim Boon Heng, Bernard Chen etc...not forgetting Benny Lim who if i am not mistaken is the present permanent sec @ MHA...also kudos to the brave courageous lawyers who tried to help the "22" n fight the good fight like Roslina Babba, Wee Pan Lee, Patrick Seong, George Lim etc...

btw i gather Tan Wah Piow considered himself a Maoist Communist at the material time...not too sure abt Paul Lim who apparently resided in 'exile' in Belgium

i gather Soh Lung has read Barr's papers' and is of the view that the abv paper is a good one as she apparently did not see the ISD notes the way Barr viewed it...also gather Soh Lung is apparently of the view that the Church is a disgrace and among the 4 priests only Fr Joseph Ho is great...

Take for example, this Malik affair. There seems to be enough inertia in the system to jumpstart into overdrive of persecution, paranoia, and playing oversafe. When in doubt, arrest and detain and torture the confessions out of the victims, if the fishing fails.
I'm just waiting for these files to be declassed so the whole Singapore would know whetehr it was all a witch hunt because Old Man kept seeing the ghosts of communist trade unions and middle school students.

It probably had to start with the SPF from Bedok, but I suspect things were not that simple. The police were probably mere data gatherers and they had to go up the hierarchy to someone high up for "authority" or permission to carry on, sir. If I am the Minister, I would taichi to someone down the line to do the unpleasant and to test the market. If the move was wrong, the poor guy will take the fall. If it was a cautious move and it turned out proactive, the Minister will take his credit.
