Vincent Cheng: ISA victims must speak out

There is a fine line between socialist and communist. Vincent Cheng was bordering on communist.

Only you say so, you are parroting the Old fart. Paranoia is a sickness, a mental disorder. Stay away or you will be having it like the Old fart.

Wrong. I am a puritan Smithsonian capitalist. In my view, LKY was himself leaning more left than desired in his earlier years but has seen the light to veer right.

Did he veer, I dont think so. Look deeper, the brand may have changed but the paradigm have not shifted.

Actually Yong held firm over 2 years. He was called up twice and warned. The pope was then notified and nothing happened.

When he was called to the Istana and old man revealed a number of priest involved and showed documents. He feared that there was more. This was after the detentions began.

Gregory Yong was the worse archbishop possible, a coward, and a politically naive person.

Vincent Cheng is one of the most honest man that you will ever meet. He began life intending to be a priest but became a social worker. He was relentless in his approach to help a fellow man who needed trouble.

I am sure the people who put this case together must be wondering why they did it.

Communism is a wonderful ideal as it believes in the equality of man and the right to be treated fairly. However it is not practical and those who have followed in its path have meandered badly and the ideology is badly tainted.

Lenin made the first mistake by calling for violence to achieve their goals. It was also his last mistake as Communism from then on lost its meaning.

Vincent was no communist. He was just seeking fairness and justice.

Vincent Cheng may not have been inciting violence. But he was definitely planting the seeds of Marxism. The danger is that that will give the opportunity for someone else to incite violence.

Again being paranoid. Believe me, stay way or you'll have the sickness like the old fart has.

It was a lack of paranoia that Lenin was allowed to emerge. When it comes to communism, especially how seductive it was earlier, it is better to be safe than sorry. Vincent Cheng should have been crushed with the feet of capitalism like we would a cockroach.

Geezz...now, you are not only paranoid, you're becoming tyrannic. I have to conclude that you are as sick as the the old fart.:D

For a more in depth account of this sad sorry saga...

to try n derive a more informative balanced opinion of this dark bizzare sad sorry chapter in Singapore's history...read the following insightful texts which provide both an in depth well researched academic view...and a first hand account of this sad sorry saga by none other than Teo Soh Lung herself...

in a nutshell...Harry did not appear that interested in the so called "Marxists' 22"...he appeared much more interested in the 4 priests, what they had been up to and the consequences and impact that they created...in fact i gather Harry actually alluded to some of the "22" as "do gooders"...some were apparently even termed "unconscious conspirators"...as for Judge Sam, apart fm being an ok chap out of court, i gather he is a v keen numismatist wif a valuable collection of old straits coins:D...

oh yes n i wonder what the likes of Tommy Koh n the late David Marshall shall be thinking after reading these texts...same goes for PAP catholics at that material time:the late Eddy Barker, George Yeo, Lim Boon Heng, Bernard Chen etc...not forgetting Benny Lim who if i am not mistaken is the present permanent sec @ MHA...also kudos to the brave courageous lawyers who tried to help the "22" n fight the good fight like Roslina Babba, Wee Pan Lee, Patrick Seong, George Lim etc...

btw i gather Tan Wah Piow considered himself a Maoist Communist at the material time...not too sure abt Paul Lim who apparently resided in 'exile' in Belgium

i gather Soh Lung has read Barr's papers' and is of the view that the abv paper is a good one as she apparently did not see the ISD notes the way Barr viewed it...also gather Soh Lung is apparently of the view that the Church is a disgrace and among the 4 priests only Fr Joseph Ho is great...

I am not tyrannic, but I feel that the forces of capitalism must always prevail but it is the ultimate balancing mechanism. Think I would be a Ferringi in the Star Trek world. :D

Did you say Old fart has seen the light?

What light?

Yeah, the light is the type when he is beckoned to leave this place permanantly!

You are really a mental case, do check yourself in, for your own sake.

You're the communist who should be checking in to IMH.

The trouble is we never know what's really in those letters. We only have Old Man's word. Seeing how words and phrases can be twisted to suit his agenda, can we really take things at face value? Take for example, this Malik affair. There seems to be enough inertia in the system to jumpstart into overdrive of persecution, paranoia, and playing oversafe. When in doubt, arrest and detain and torture the confessions out of the victims, if the fishing fails.
I'm just waiting for these files to be declassed so the whole Singapore would know whetehr it was all a witch hunt because Old Man kept seeing the ghosts of communist trade unions and middle school students.

Old man showed him letters from Tan Wah Piow written to the brother of one of the detainees asking for the Church to drive his agenda.

The Malik affair was neither an ISA arrest nor initiated by ISD. Apparently, a reader of the Malik FB called police to report Malik wanted to burn Vivi Bala. It was investigated by the Bedok police division, not ISD.

It probably had to start with the SPF from Bedok, but I suspect things were not that simple. The police were probably mere data gatherers and they had to go up the hierarchy to someone high up for "authority" or permission to carry on, sir. If I am the Minister, I would taichi to someone down the line to do the unpleasant and to test the market. If the move was wrong, the poor guy will take the fall. If it was a cautious move and it turned out proactive, the Minister will take his credit.
