Vincent Cheng: ISA victims must speak out

Tan and company went to the Jurong office of Phey Yew Kok over worker's right. There was a scuffle and tan was charged with rioting and jailed. Upon his release, instead of reporting for NS, he fled to the UK where he took law in Oxford.

The judge who convicted Tan was Justice Sinnathuray who ironically heard Teo Soh Lung's case for detention.

Tan Wah Piao did not admit to the rioting as he was not at the site. He was drinking coffee with a friend. This friend and Tan gave the prosecutor a hard time in court. The prosecutor, in court, accused Tan's friend, his witness, as one of the master mind of the riot. This witness shamed the prosecutor right at the court... This witness was arrested under ISA right after the verdict was announced... but, he predicted his arrest and actually told the reporters before he walked out of the court that he was not going home but going to be arrested by ISD. ;) He was released a few months later.

Anyway, this friend became an opposition candidate in one of the elections. When he appeared as the candidate, PAP panicked. All big guns were positioned in the constituency that he contested, from LKY and wife, GCT, Tony Tan...etc... in the end, PAP lost 4 seats but he failed to win the seat.

Tan WP was released from prison and expected to report for NS after the weekend. He escaped the ISD agents' surveillance while having a "party" with his friends. The rest is history.

Simple commonsense. MSK has to bomb and kill someone or many ones first before he can be arrested. He's probably dead by then in suicide mission, one life in exchange for many more innocent lives.

So we should thank ISA for this? hmmmm....

They forsee/presume the situation, take action and not wait for it to happen if it ever happens. Others would wait for things to happen and then take action.

Tyrant I agree, but then again, if you ever watch this movie by Zhang Yimou (if you haven't, rent the DVD)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_(2002_film)

Assassin Jet Li has the chance to kill this tyrant Qin Shih Huang. But he didn't. Instead he chose death.

It has a meaningful story behind

I dont watch chinese movies, besides movie storylines are mostly base on fiction more than facts. The fact is the attempt fail, reasons arent important anymore.

The ISA should be abolished while anti-terrorism law should be put in place.

Tan Wah Piow and Juliet Chin were student leaders at Bt Timah Campus and had a great following. They first initiated protest over poor villagers in Malaysia that coincidently Anwar was leading his youth activist days.

Phey Yew Kok was investigated for corruption and CBT. He fled to Taiwan. The irony is that the Police seized 2 tour buses as part of case and used to drive their police officers on bus tours to Haadyai.

The judge who convicted Tan was Justice Sinnathuray who ironically heard Teo Soh Lung's case for detention.

Thanks. So Tan was fortunate or unfortunate he gets a trial even if it's kangaroo and not dump into Whitley. Any clues how Phey yew kok managed to fled when he's under investigations and no efforts made to track him down and bring him to justice. Or is he given a safe passage out never to come back and embarrass the papsmears. He just disappears with total media blackout, how interesting.

Actually the trial was a farce. Tan had no connection with subversive elements or the communist. He was also well known and well liked by his fellow students. The scuffle was god sent to the Government. No judge in Singapore would have jailed an architecture student who had no previous record. The most would have been a probation. No one was hurt. The offence at the most was mischief. They truly fixed him up.

Sinnathuray who was a district judge then was elevated to the Bench. Till this day, the law fraternity and the rest of society have little time for this man. He is an outcast.

You should see this man in real life. So polite, so nice that you thought that he was kindest man in the world.

Everyone knows that PAP did not want Phey to return.

Wow, more story and facts are coming out. I believe someone must have helped Tan WP flee and got him asylum in UK, otherwise it'll be a different jistory.

There is little more behind this story. Its called the Nanyang connection. This incident did not take place by fluke in Jurong. Tan was standing outside PIEU office at the time of the incident.

Very interesting, I too find it silly to even believe it's rioting. Then again with kangaroos, justice dont prevail. Heard of this sinnathuray before, a pariah like him desrerves to be an island. Guess this Phey must have mob connection, a fugitive can remain in Taiwan and not being noticed till this day, the amount he breach must be quite substantial to get him around. Unlike other disgraced papsmears he dont have to cancel his own life, how fortunate.

Goh Meng Seng

Concurred, ISA is a tyranny act, it's against the rule of law and should be abolished. Anti-terrorism law should be seriously drafted and put in place fast, this global threat is not easy to deal with and is not going to go away for a long time to come if not forever.

Very interesting and informative, drop in more lines. I only read bits and pieces here and there, had coffee shops hearsays and it was said not only uni students but poly students movement members were also rounded up for questioning by ISD officials.

Unfortunately, pathetic people like you are why the singapore society is in the mess that it is. You inability to marry logic with historical facts speaks volumes about your limited cranial capacity, or maybe u are just a PAP plant.

Singaporeans blame their woe and misfortunes on the PAP because..........wait for it...............could it just possibly be...............IT IS THE FUCKING PAP'S FAULT? In a normal democracy, if people think the govt. has brought about their woe and misfortune, they just vote them out. Happens every where in the world. But when the PAP uses criminal means to stay in power, for decades, and lay illegal plans for remaining in power for decades more, who should the people blame for their misfortunes? Themselves? I think not. When people lost their jobs because the PAP lets in some FT that stole ther job for half the pay, is it their inability to succeed in society? When the HDB sells them a $400K flat that costs $100K to build and burden them with a huge mortgage and monthly payments hence leaving them with less monthly discretionary income, is it their fault? When the people have to serve 2 years NS, and countless years reservists and as a result lost income and promotion opportunities because of this just so that newcomer citizens in their age group can walk around like they own the place, this is their fault or the PAP's? There are many more examples, are u too stupid to see it?

No one is romanticising PAP opponents here. People like Francis Seow are not likable people, and was Old Goat attack dog when he was the SG. But we have to recognise them for what they are. They are braver than u and I because they make their opposition public and take on all the shit the PAP throws at them.

Cool my friend, sometimes people whose luxuries comes from the current system and situations they dont look at the big picture or they'll choose not to look at it. Humans are selfish by nature, some people will choose to be blind to others' miseries. Any attack and criticism on their providers you will be stepping on their backyard, their simple small mind will come with a broom. Until misery comes their way only then will they realize they cant sweep it away, they are on the wrong side.

Here is something else that most people are not aware of and this includes most of the detainees. They have also chosen not to discuss the matter and piece together the puzzle on the Tan Wah Piow involvement with the group. They might have done it as individuals or a within the ones that they are close to.

Vincent Cheng probably till this day does not know why he ended up as the leader of the conspiracy. He was certainly the scapegoat but he became the convenient person to tie the whole lot as he was a socialist and readily admitted to his beliefs. Many of us are socialist but the poor chap got hung for it.

The persons who are directly linked to Tan Wah Piow are Teresa Lim Li Kok, Chia Boon Tai and Wong Souk Yee. Though Vincent met Tan in London that in itself is not sinister. We have a cabinet minister who actually was part of Tan's study group that met regularly. There is however another person that was involved but could not be arrested and he goes by the name Paul Lim Huat Chye. Paul is the main link to Tan.

This government has a habit of not disclosing the full picture in order to protect its sources and not to give away too much to the dissidents as to the Govt's extent of knowledge of their operations.

This however leads to innocent people damaged for life for crossing the paths of those involved.

I am sure Vincent Cheng, Tang, Teo , de Souza and few others could not understand or comprehend their detention. Thus became the most defiant and ended up sadly serving detention longer than the rest. That is the reason why they gather and that is the reason why they only talk about their detention ordeal. They have not worked out the puzzle.

The only common thread amongst all 24 is the period of detention and the interrogation ordeal that they went thru.

Gregory Yong did not yield despite pressure from Jayakumar and the ISD. Finally he relented when the old man got him to the Istana. Old man showed him letters from Tan Wah Piow written to the brother of one of the detainees asking for the Church to drive his agenda.

Yong probably feared that there was more.

Gregory Yong was the worse archbishop possible, a coward, and a politically naive person. He should never have been in that position. He forgot that he serves only God and god's representative on earth, the Pope. Not Old Goat. when Old Goat showed him the letters, he should have just told him to fuck off. Agreeing to come on TV and denounce the so call conspirators was just a cowardly act, and he later claim he was conned into it. It was live TV, he could have easily denounced Old Goat on TV before they pull the plug. He knows the roman catholic church was innocent, and other than allowing their facility to be used by Vincent Cheng, they in no manner supported actively his agenda.

I know what u are saying, Old Goat could have banned the roman catholic religion ala Jehovah Witnesses, and what not. Yong should have called his bluff and dared him to do so.Members of the inner circle and cabinet like Hon SUi Sen, EW Barker, were devout catholics. banning their religion would have been cause for a mutiny. in addition to antagonizing the tens of thousands of catholics in S'pore, Old Goat would have faced widespread international criticism from the Vatican and every other catholic country in the world. Yong should have grown a pair of balls and look Old Goat in the eyes and said "don't fuck with 200,000 catholics".

Yong missed a golden opportunity to curtail Old Goat and put some fear in him. May his soul burn in hell.

I don't tolerate PAP apologists and ball lickers. That's just my DNA. I will always strive to embarass them, harass them, and put them down. If they have a problem with that, they should change their viewpoint or jump off a flat.

I am unlikely to joint the Opps but will join PAP & fucking create havoc in its ranks & draw the line clearly between those who were originally inspired by the Spirit of '59/'65 & the colorless heartless technocrats & reclaim/return the Dominant Party to the people of Singapore.

& yes, I am kosingat from Delphi Days 1998/1999.....
Bro Elephanto

Good luck in your work and your aspiration to be in public life. Wish you the best in both.
But if you really want to help the poor, needy and down-trodden in SG, please don't join the pap.

These are very interesting, the old fart got paranoid over such a harmless socialist group and got so fearful that he had to have them put away injusticely. Very unfortunate and how very sad they had to go thru.

There is a fine line between socialist and communist. Vincent Cheng was bordering on communist.

I never like them too. I take them as ignorant simpletons conditioned by the papsmears that leans towards social darwinism. The old fart haunts them with events of the 60s that instill a fear factor and they live with a belief that only with papsmears around can this nation survive. Unfortunately a majoity of the population are such simpletons, they are fearful of the unknown. Until these people believe otherwise, nothing is going to change, at least not anytime soon.

It'll be great to see the archbishop having the guts and the Old fart challenged. He may give the church a hard time but he cant ban religion unless he's a communist.
