every sinkie can get on the property ladder on the ground floor. twice. if you are a family of 4. you can get 6 units at BTO price. Who the fuck cares about resale. only dumbfucks Malaysian PRs
As more of the elderly population ages, you expect these old folks to climb the stairs? Good for you as you may not be suffering as such now, but at least spare a thought for them. Don't forget that you can't really choose the exact units you want for the HDB balloting, or am I behind time on this?this is in essence the prime raison d'existence for the HDB. winners always likes his apples to apples comparisons which are prime examples of straw man arguments facilitated by superficial observations. But the main point as you posited is the very valid criticism is that HDB is no longer fulfilling it's prime function.
It was meant to be a guarantee of safe, affordable housing for the mass populace. It has now become a bit of a speculative pony which it should never be. Elevators on every floor can go jump in a lake.
These people here are complaining that even BTO prices are unaffordable. This is their main grudge, as they claim to be affecting their next generation's housing needs.every sinkie can get on the property ladder on the ground floor. twice. if you are a family of 4. you can get 6 units at BTO price. I am unaware of how units are allocated. If elderly folks are faced with stairs that means HDB has failed it's original remit. plain and simple. As more of the elderly population ages, you expect these old folks to climb the stairs? Good for you as you may not be suffering as such now, but at least spare a thought for them. Don't forget that you can't really choose the exact units you want for the HDB balloting, or am I behind time on this?
No. This section is you're way off target. Basic human necessities are shelter, food. Some people argue healthcare. To use your apples to apples comparison would be to argue that public hospitals should be upgraded with fancy waiting rooms and concierge services otherwise they will be damned for not keeping up with private hospitals. You think I agree with this? To make it clear, if a person can't afford private hospital he should go without? So public hospitals must keep up with private hospitals and screw those that can't afford it?I know that many of you are arguing that the prime role of the HDB is to provide basic housing to the general public, but with the steady rise in Sinkies' affluence, I strongly believe that the HDB will be criticized again for not following with the times if they will continue to build plain and boring units whilst the private developers are improving by leaps and bounds. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Even if tomorrow the HDB will implement the policy of owners can only sell back to the HDB at a preset price, you think there won't be retaliations? It's always not easy to satisfy all Sinkies.
Same as para above. If you have the means go ahead and buy private condo and maybe a few landed and go to a private hospital. Ditto with multiple handphones and devices. I will happily cheer for you. But the government is implicitly tasked with taking care of it's lesser citizens. It is not there to strive for your achievements on your behalf!!Just ask yourself. During your teens, do you carry handphones, not to mention iPads/Tablets. Nowadays, most parents are equipping their upper primary school kids with handphones and secondary school kids with iPads/Tablets. This is called upgrading in one's quality of life. This is also considered an achievement in life. For me, it is with this aim in life that I will want to strive for.
You may very well be right about the price. I'm looking at policy not predicting price here. Seriously good for you that you have that attitude towards life. I support it. But there's a chunk of population that may not have the means to do what you do. Maybe no money, maybe lesser education, maybe even simply too stupid. Should those people be left to sink? I again point out the original purpose that LKY said that HDB was set up for. To provide housing for the population. Not to provide atas for the population. If you think these people should sink and the majority of singapore agrees with you, I will keep quiet. Those less privileged should either move or die then. Their pasal right?Going ahead, I strongly doubt HDB prices will decline in the future, which you all should also agree. So, rather than to ridicule and continue to condemn the HDB (which will eventually still have no favorable leads), why not plan and work on something to counter this disadvantage by oneself. Think of ways to overcome this disadvantage instead. I don't know about others, but for me when faced with a problem, I'll think of ways to overcome it, especially if there is no chance of the imposer to change its stance. No point to keep on complaining and harping because it's not going to solve your problem. Alternatively, vote them out, but I doubt even the opposition will want to rock the boat and change anything substantially.
Let's see how this "complaining" will change things eventually. How long do I have to wait?In a sense you're right. No point complaining, vote them out, but there's a good chance the opposition is equally if not more misdirected. But if you don't make a loud enough sound where is the cause for taking action? It starts with "complaining". Make the demands known. Then it can go from there.
This is what is happening to our public hospitals currently. Look at the Ng Teng Fong Hospital in Jurong East. So plush looking from the outside, I initially thought it was another condominium. Compare this to the public hospital in Johor Bahru (if you've ever visited one). Half of their lifts there are not working, and when the working ones do arrive, they are packed to the brim that I finally decided to take the staircase eventually. Even the services and facilities provided by our government polyclinics have improved tremendously. So, expect to see a corresponding increase in consultation costs. I've just heard the news on CNA 938 that consumers should expect to see price increases in 2022 due to inflation.No. This section is you're way off target. Basic human necessities are shelter, food. LKY was not always right. His 2-child policy is now heavily criticized today for the low Sinkie population. His adamant opposition to building casinos in Singapore but subsequently overturned this himself. One has to go along with the times and trends.I again point out the original purpose that LKY said that HDB was set up for. To provide housing for the population.
Society has never been equal, even in commie China. This is where charity organizations come in to play its role. They won't be an entire problem solver but at least they can contribute towards the caring of the genuinely lesser abled. Remember that there are also many imposters who will refuse to work for their day's keep despite being healthy and able bodied. There are also plenty of them preferring to be food delivery riders instead of having a stable full-time job. When I had my first job, I had to cycle 6km (1-way) daily to the office for the first 3 months until they allocated me a van to drive home after my probation. You think today's generation is willing to do this? But there's a chunk of population that may not have the means to do what you do. We may not see this within our life time, at least the conversation started.Let's see how this "complaining" will change things eventually. How long do I have to wait?
Like I said. Good for you. And you have a valid criticism about today's generation.Society has never been equal, even in commie China. This is where charity organizations come in to play its role. omg. can we please leave other countries and their incompetent management practices out of this? That's not the issue/topic in this thread. It is simply HDB for home stay. or HDB not for home stay. This is what is happening to our public hospitals currently. Look at the Ng Teng Fong Hospital in Jurong East. Sure he was not always right. And there's things he did that I can't agree with. But back to the topic, he setup the HDB to provide housing for everyone. Should or should not the HDB do that? That's the topic. I assume you vote that it should change?LKY was not always right. His 2-child policy is now heavily criticized today for the low Sinkie population. His adamant opposition to building casinos in Singapore but subsequently overturned this himself. One has to go along with the times and trends.
No wonder Sinkies are renown as "Complain Kings". Really live up to this.We may not see this within our life time, at least the conversation started.
when the million dollar BTO come to pass, the future generation shall be able look back at thisNo wonder Sinkies are renown as "Complain Kings". Really live up to this.

Read my point 2 in the first post.HDB is for home stay. Period.
Sinkies who own private property are not allowed to buy HDB flats.
and rightly so. HDB is incredible compared to public housing in the rest of the world. As long as they keep doing what they're doing and keep it affordable.HDB is for home stay. Period.
Sinkies who own private property are not allowed to buy HDB flats.
The PAP has put many measures in place to keep HDB flats affordable. The yardstick for HDB affordability used is based on the median sinkie annual income.
In many countries, their public housing degenerates into slums because their governments don't allocate enough money to maintain the estate and to keep crime low. PAP has learnt from the mistakes of other countries and also took action to prevent ethnic enclaves from forming within HDB estates.
