Singapore Prime Minister and People's Action Party chief Lee Hsien Loong has launched his fiercest salvo against the opposition ahead of the next General Elections due to be held by January 2017.

Speaking at the PAP60 Rally at Singapore Expo on Sunday in front of 6,000 party cadres, PM Lee didn't mince his words as he called the next General Elections a "deadly serious fight".

“The next GE is critical for Singapore and for us. It is not just about expressing approval or disapproval. It is not just about winning a seat in Parliament. It is not a by-election,” he said, adding that the PAP intends to contest every seat and win back the WP-held Aljunied, Punggol East and Hougang constituencies.

“The next GE is about choosing a clear vision for Singapore, choosing a capable leadership for Singapore, choosing a brighter future for Singapore,” he said adding that the whole of Singapore is "at stake".

“Our future is at stake because if we do not remain a nation of opportunity, our children will have no future. Our society is at stake because if we do not uphold a fair and just society, our society will be pulled apart. Our country is at stake. If the PAP fails, Singapore is in deep trouble. We shall not fail.”

PM Lee also said the PAP was different from other political parties, again taking a dig at the WP, who've been under the recent spotlight for its lack of transparency in its Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) records and also its lack of a clear position on many national policies.

“When we face problems, we acknowledge them publicly and deal with them. We do not pretend there’s no problem: ‘No comment, studying the matter, thinking about it, will verify one day’. We settle now,” he said. “If you lie low, hoping the public will forget the issue and the issue will go away, the public will forget you and you might as well go away.”

The PAP, he said, brings different groups together, solves problems and plans for the future.

“In short, only the PAP truly cares for the people and for the future of our children and grandchildren,” he said.

Singaporeans are sensible people! I don't care who you vote for!

As long as you vote for democracy and freedom!

The rest will come later!

Re: My prediction on Aljunied GRC

He will be stupid if he say PAP will win the constituencies back in the next election. If he doesn't, he will be challenged to step down.

What he said was PAP will do its best to win back those places and this will take years but they will try like for Sitoh in Potong Pasir.

If he acknowledges it will take years, it definitely can't be 2016. I don't mind if it takes as long as Potong Pasir because that took 27 years. In 20 years, more than these 7 seats will be captured by the opposition.

Potong Pasir with Sitoh is a totally different issue. To weaken CST's support, they keep cutting the constituency until it is the smallest in Singapore. PP was lost due to technicalities. The good news is that all the opposition is gearing up, in a good way and they are contesting in all the wards. Gone are the days where PAP can gerrymander easily. That's why LHL is saying that it will be a tough fight.

Re: My prediction on Aljunied GRC

Minimum sum will surely increased again if PAP remains in power... beware hor... for those who thinking of voting for PAP.

Not just Minimum Sum. GST also raised to 10%.... for this parliament, they cannot raise GST because CSJ tricked them into committing to keep GST @ 7% and they are stuck. But next time they will be smarter and hold out to raise it to at least 10%.

Will this be PM Lee's swan-song?

There seemed to be plenty of fight in PM Lee Hsien Loong's performance at the PAP 60th anniversary rally on 7 December. Now genuine pundits cannot help feeling that all his vociferous utterances of fictional inspiration to his followers could be a fig-leaf to hide his fear of a backlash to his party's chances at the next election before 2017. He could not be so myopic as not to be able or not wanting to see the winds of change that had swept the Congress Party in India from power and more recently the KMT from the mayoral and local elections in Taiwan. That the PAP will be the next target is not something that is so intangible. PM Lee can ignore the lessons of the PAP debacle in Aljunied GRC and Punggol East SMC at his peril.

Quite understandably there is now a feeling of euphoria among dreamy PAP leaders and their equally dreamy adherents which has unwittingly lulled them into a false sense of security. They think that now they have the electorate eating out of their hands with their ostensibly humanitarian handouts like the Pioneer Generation Package and the Medishield Life assistance. The irony is that many, especially those of the lower rank of society, are still wondering what the schemes are about and how they could benefit them. The fact is that the rot of discontent has gone too deep, especially among the poor, for any pathetic half-hearted effort to remedy the situation. They dream that the ground is idyllic in their favour and that recapturing Aljunied, Hougang and Punggol East is a foregone conclusion. But they will be in for a rude awakening.

Another glaring grievance which constantly makes the poor section livid is the absurdly astronomical salaries that PM Lee and his ministers pay themselves out of taxpayers' money. When they are living from hand to mouth constantly worrying there their next meal will be coming from while the mercenary PM Lee and his ministers are wallowing in wealth from their whopping salaries at the expense of the taxpayers, would the high-falutin PM Lee and his equally high-falutin ministers still be dreaming that these seriously deprived electorate are a contented lot?

It will not be amiss to mention here that when PM Lee was interviewed recently by a China TV host, the latter tendentiously posed an awkwark question to PM Lee on the "high salaries" of PAP ministers. This immediately put the qualmish PM Lee on his guard who unashamedly declined to accept the term "high salaries". True to his devious character, he offered to use an euphemistic term of "a realistic and correct salary". The TV host obviously understood his discomfiture and did not press further. This clearly shows that the disingenuous PM Lee is aware that the obscenely high ministerial salaries are an inescapable fact and the that some of the run-of-the -mill type of ministers are shamelessly pocketing them is scandalous, to say the least. No wonder the poorer section of the society are livid over this.

The never-say-die spirit of PM Lee in rousing his ministers and other potential PAP candidates to greater effort in winning as many seats as possible in GE 2016 is admirable on the surface but considering the mediocre performance of many of the run-of-the-mill type of ministers, PM Lee could brace himself for a considerable percentage of casualties among these ministers, which means that more GRCs may go to the united opposition.

GE 2016 is therefore very much an epoch-making election to watch. It may be PM Lee's swan-song.

......“In short, only the PAP truly cares for the people and for the future of our children and grandchildren,” he said.

LHL wasn't lying when he made that promise.

Scrutinize the key phrase:"....truly cares for the people and for the future of our children and grandchildren"

What LHL meant was:

1. PAP truly cares for the people
2. PAP also truly cares for the future of HIS and his cronies' children and grandchildren

If LHL had meant to include Sinkies' children and grandchildren, he would've phrased it differently. After all LHL is a President Scorer who spent three years in Engrand and graduated from Cambridge Uni. with honors.

Re: PM: Opposition doesn’t articulate a vision for S’pore

I can understand Lee is just doing his job to rally the morale of PAP members. But most people expect that not only is it impossible to win back the 3 constituencies, at least one more GRC is in danger of falling.

Lee said the government acknowledges problems publicly and deal with them. It is fine to acknowledge, but I certainly don't see a number of problems dealt with for decades.

Sim Lim Square has faced bad reputation for years and it is only because of media tools that cases were recorded, compared to the past where people would be advised by friends to avoid Sim Lim based on hearsay. The laws to protect consumers have been weak for decades. CASE has been around for more than 20 years and it is only now that Lim Biow Chuan wants more powers.

If PAP acknowledges these problems for decades, PAP is effectively reminding us of their incompetence, then why should I vote for them.

Aljunied, Hougang and Ponggol East will see the WP improving on its previous performance. 1 or 2 more GRCs will be gone from the MIW.

The only swan song is if he gets cancer relapse and dies.

We don't want an 'Emeritus PM Lee' or similar bullshit. Or worse, President Lee Hsien Loong.
