Many people around me clocking over $10,000 a month by 40s, in civil service, private sector, banking, stat boards, medical sector, etc. The expensive car, higher interest rates for condos, tours don't really affect them.

It appears that $10,000 gross is just enough for a family of four,

$1300 for insurance/savings
$1700 for CPF contribution
$1000 for 2 kids' allowances
$1000 for 2 kids' tuitions
$2000 for car, petrol and maintenance
$1000 + CPF payment for home loan.
$1000 for utilities and groceries
$1000 for parents (of the breadwinner)
-------------------------------------------------
Total $10,000: Nothing Left

Preferably the wife should also be working, so that there are spare money for other expenditures and tours.

I spend about $10,000 a month too. Retired with no children.
Once upon a time, having kids or not, was a lifestyle choice.
Now it costs too much to raise a kid. That's why many are having less kids, so that they can afford that annual tour, condo and/or car in Singapore.

yes, even those making $10000 a month finds it hard to cope, so wife needs to work.

If you wanna send your kids to better tuition class, water polo class, it will be $1000-1500 per kid at least.

All you need is a serious illness or an unexpected demise of a spouse to fuck up your lives. Insurance payout can only go so far.

The more you earn, the more you are afraid of layoffs.
I'm intrigued to know how high-fliers cope when they got the pink slip, especially when they just made heavy financial commitment like buying a new home or new car. Any samster in this predicament?
