Just look at the interest in FIFA World Cup compare with YOG. Everyone is so crazy about FIFA World Cup that the whole economy and lifestyle is affected but the YOG is so cold.

I have created a YOG special set for those staying at the nearby hotel. Tried to expand premises temporarily but not approved. Too bad, otherwise will have made a lot more money

But never mind, 知足常乐

Onlookers all fired up
By Jeff Ang
THE covered overhead bridge at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 offered more than a good vantage point for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) torch relay.

It was shelter from the morning drizzle. And, more importantly, it was a bridge to making new bonds.

Just ask residents Jenny Ang, Tan Kin Mong and Wang Yan Yan. They had never met, despite living within five blocks from one another for the last eight years, until they gathered on the bridge yesterday.

Mr Tan, 63, a retired shipyard worker, said: 'I hardly know my neighbours at all. But an event like the YOG can really bring people together.'

Ms Wang, a study mama from China, was also glad that the YOG has brought her new friends. But what will live on in her memory is the rush of pride she felt when she watched on television as the flame arrived in Singapore last Thursday.

'I've long considered Singapore my home, and I was so proud to see Ng Ser Miang bringing the flame back here,' said Ms Wang, who is in her 40s. Mr Ng is chairman of the Singapore YOG Organising Committee.

Ms Ang, a retiree, said rain or shine, she would not have missed yesterday's event. The 72-year-old added she may never get another chance to be so close to the flame.

At Marymount Road, nine-year-old Gayatri Kamble, who was with her mother Sangita, 36, and brother Tejas, eight, could barely contain her excitement at the impending arrival of the flame. Said Ms Sangita: 'We've never seen the Olympic flame in person before, that's why I brought my kids.'

Mr Jonathon Quek, a 40-year-old manager, travelled from Bukit Batok to MacRitchie Reservoir to see the Olympic flame and seek inspiration for his child.

He and his wife, teacher Tham Meng Chee, believe sports can help their daughter Kimberly build her confidence and lead a fuller life.

The 10-year-old, a swimmer at St Margaret's Primary School, is deaf. After the relay, she said: 'Someday, I want to swim for Singapore.'

Those who are not interested in YOG were not there for the torch relay.

Those who'd given negative comment to the media, their views were censored and discarded as only good news will be accepted.

I happened to saw the relay in AMK. Only the parents were there along the road supporting their child who was part of the relay. the entire stretch of road were desserted, except for the traffic jam behind the YOG buses and TP escorts.

Take a picture and post it on the web.

The PAP spends $300+ Million for a few thousand athletes and they don't even give a damn about their own people. :oIo:

wahlaneh...
in singapore, people are more concerned about many important things than YOG lah.
1) non-stop increase in fares n prices.
2) non-stop flooding of FW/FT.
3) many people are still jobless n companies not hiring Singaporeans.
4) bills n bills to pay n pay.
among many more other things lah...

SPOT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People are concern on bread and butter, rather than some YOG which wasted so much money, and lift the ego of some1.

Hope this is an indication of the people towards the govenement. ERECTIONS are not possible within this year liao. A failure on PAP part, hoping that N-Day, YOG will bring about better mood of the people.

PAP need not be voted out by a hard campagin, but they killed themselves.

father to daughter : train hard and one day you may be in the YOG next time.

however, recently, the advert had change from the aboved sentence to this:

father to daughter : train hard and one day you WILL be in the YOG next time.

Her father is lying. Cheng hu can always import FTs to win medals in the Olympics. Train so hard for fuck? just study hard and become a doctor/lawyer.

After having killed singapore's Olympic spirit 2 years ago by fielding foreigners to represent the country, they now expect us to support this event????

>>There is still little noise among Singaporeans for the Games and Syogoc need to step up<<<
by Leonard Thomas
___________________________________________________________

a lot of noise from the Slovak ambassador.

http://www.temasekreview.com/2010/0...ingapores-yog-venues-of-school-standard-only/

in another blow to the pride of the embattled PAP, a YOG Ambassador from Slovakia had lashed out at Singapore for having “school standard” venues for the YOG:

Ms. Danka Bartekova is one of the 30 selected YOG Ambassadors from Slovakia; her job like any other ambassadors are to promote YOG.

When interviewed by Slovak media, she said:

“I’ve heard that some of the athletic fields in Singapore are no better than the standard school facilities, nothing special. Maybe Slovakia does have the potential to organise YOG, but I cannot imagine that our country would be able to accommodate the thousands of athletes and officials that would come to the games. That would require huge investments by any host country.”

She also pour scorn on Singapore spending its way to beat Moscow in organizing the inaugural YOG.

“Singapore knows that they cannot organise and hold a “Big” Olympics, so they invested a lot of money to hold a “small” Olympics instead,” she added.

Her unusual outburst against the YOG is likely to exert pressure on the PAP which is facing a massive public backlash over the YOG exceeding its initial budget by more than two times to a whooping $387 million dollars.

An embarrassed PAP Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Youth, Community and Sports Teo Ser Luck was forced to issue a public rebuttal of Ms Danka’s accusations.

He claimed that the venues in Singapore used for the YOG have all been inspected by the International Olympic Committee whose members have expressed “confidence” in the facilities.

Do you think a PRC will know who is the chairman of the YOG and to spell it out in his name in full.
