Meanwhile, we should not spent a cent of the reserves on the poor and needy. So by the time war comes, the poor and the needy would have all died already, leaving only the rich and the elites to be provided for by the reserves. That bloody Lee planned all these things as legitimate excuses. He said that democracy or government cannot please 'everyone' ... so, he decided to please ONLY the rich. The rich have companies that pay taxes at 20 % rate. Why must he get himself too involved with the old and poor ? They are a burden for him to 'think' of an idea to settle them down. He can't be bothered when the world is busy grabbing money all over the places. Has he got time for those folks who complained to PAP ? The answer was so clear when he started to pay everyone up there with him millions and millions ...

The poor and the needy won't die. After a while, they'll realise that the government is not going to bow to the ridiculous notion that they can get something for nothing and it will force them to get off their butts and do some honest work instead of waiting for a handout.
The only people who really need help are those who are too sick and too old to work. This category should be helped by their children, their relatives and other kind souls who feel for them.. in other words, people like you. What have you done for them recently?
Oh, my dear Leongsam. You don't know how many forummers here are involved with social and volunteer work. In fact, it is through their own experience in helping the poor and needy that they are posting what they see as injustice on the part of the govt and their total neglect by the govt. Just like the PAP, you're far detached from reality. It's convenient to use the excuse that the poor and needy ought to be helped by their children and relatives. But the actual situation is that these people's children and relatives are not in a position to help, most are hand-to-mouth, and in fact in need of help themselves. One good sign that I note through my involvement with social and volunteer is that many who are giving of themselves to help our less fortunate fellow citizens are turning against the PAP. Most of them had done well and are well to do, and they are virtuous enough to know that they ought to share their wealth and time with those who are in need. At the same time they see how the Govt has turned a blind eye and instead focus on accumulating the reserves. Many of them who were PAP supporters had voted against the PAP in this GE as they now realise we have a govt who had totally abdicated the social responsibility forgetting that this is an essential pillar of any govt. This group can only grow in numbers which means the PAP is in for an even worse routing next GE.
You see Mr Leongsam. You are totally mistaken that forummers here are only armchair critics. Many are actually taking up the responsibilities of govt which they have abdicated. They have first-hand knowledge of how bad the situation actually is and used this forum as a platform to voice out against the indecent acts of the govt. Based on the amount of time the most vocal of the govt critics spend in this forum, there's precious little time left for even the basic human functions such as eating, shitting, sex and sleeping. If you REALLY are doing social work, I really feel sorry for the organisations or individuals you purportedly help.
However, the internet has the marvelous capability to expand your horizons, add hours to the day, add zeros to your bank account, subtract years from your age and kilos from your weight. On the internet, you can be anything you want to be and that includes "social worker".

The old and the poor are of no use to the country. The should be looked after by their families and NGOs that can offer targeted assistance to the particular niche they belong to.
It is NOT the government's job to look after the economically unproductive members of society. The government concentrates on the productive segment of the population and rightly so as it is this category of individuals who create wealth, add value and generate jobs for the rest of us.
If the govt does not look after the winners, they'll simply move out of the country and take their skills and their capital somewhere else where they are more welcome. If this happens, the economy will start spiraling downwards, jobs will be lost, property values will fall and the economy will nosedive. Once this chain of events is set off, everyone will be worse off the poor included. There'll also be a lot more poor to look after with less money available to do the job.
