You may not agree but Fook Sing was one good contributor, and he left not because of that but because of Leongsam and his forum policies.
With good contributors being a dime and dozen, this was a blot on the record.
I have always thought that a rep system was to help a forum community moderate itself, which in most cases do not work. Which made me wonder why a rep system until you just explained.
Any nationality would display such obnoxious traits in an online forum, that is why in a mature democracy like USA, online political forums are written out of the political arena decades ago. Obama doesn't log in like Goh Meng Seng to yak. In other words it is a human issue not a Singaporean issue.
If you don't already know that forums can display obnoxious traits and indulge in such meaningless experiments, there sure is something big missing at top of your head.

I loved Fook Seng's cool-headed and incisive postings. Remember that he left after Sam said that he wanted to hive off the political section and put it in as a separate forum. In the end, Fook Seng left but Sam did not do it.
Leaving the forum has become like emigration for singaporeans. You want to make the forum look like real life Singapore, some people will just emigrate in the same way people emigrate over government policies and what Singapore has become.
People joining and leaving are part and parcel of every forum including well moderated ones. Waning interest, content better in other forums, no time etc and SBF faces that as well. Being bullied out of the forum is a whole different thing. Singaporeans are compliant because of what PAP did to 2 generations. Imagine the bullying here to force forummers to comply to the views of a few who have formed lose association. No different to the PAP.
A Jedi must always know how to spell correctly. Please do not lose your cool over your inability to use "loose" when that is the correct word.
And by the way, correct usage is "no different from the PAP".

The rep system is just another means of interaction which adds one more dimension to the dynamics of the forum.
I've found the whole experiment to be extremely interesting. It's one thing to behave in an obnoxious manner but the rep system enables someone with more seniority and more points to display more of a swagger. Not only can he say "fuck you" he can also fine a "lesser" member x number of points.
It also enables cliques to help each other in times of "need".
But the points are worthless and don't mean anything you might say but why then do people go berserk when they get deducted. It's as if their bank accounts were affected.
I'm still learning new things daily.
