Most gays are not with PAP as they are against the status quo and are part of the 40% who will vote any opposition candidate. Those who think 377A is no big deal as they can defy it behind closed doors will look at other aspects before voting. No difference with family and friends who are supportive or unhappy with their gay child/friend with or without the existence of VW.
What VW will lose is at least the 20% of Christians, Muslims or people who simply find a homosexuality abhorrent. If the groups make up 10% of voters, VW effectively loses 2% before the battle starts. He can gain back more than 2% if SDP's branding improves or things in Singapore get worse.
I am a devout Christian, and I can categorically say that VW will not lose my vote just because he is gay. Both VW and the SDP (via CSJ) have said many times before that they, and the SDP, are NOT for the gay agenda. I do not judge VW because he is gay. I like him as a brother as I would like any other human being. In the final analysis, we are all sinners in different ways, and we all need God's forgiveness, gays or non-gays.
And to the thread starter, there are so many positive values that the SDP believe in, that are wholesome; courage to fight for fairness and justice, and compassion to the poor and underprivileged. These are values that are attractive to the Christians. So, in my opinions, the SDP is certainly NOT the home of the faggots. In any case, there are many other leaders/members in the SDP (who are NOT gays) besides VW. Just like one swallow does not make a whole summer, one VW does not make the whole SDP. Thanks.
