WP at the Crossroads?

Lets not get hasty here. Only WP has the capability and proven track record of taking seats away from the PAP. That in itself is the primary and overriding factor.

There is certainly a need to raise the bar where their parliamentary performance and general public engagement on topical issues are concerned.

T

However, if WP changes leadership and changes its direction in the near future, then I think it would be best development for Singapore's democratic landscape. That is the most welcome outcome.

Screw Ball, WP is not at any cross road, that is your imagination!

WP is a good Opposition Party and do not oppose PAP for the sake of opposing.

why is the wp at the crossroads? Is it because none of them chose to publicly show support for roy that is why they might not be a good party according to the screw?

40% of the vote only translate to 6.9% in parliament.
That is a glaring disproportionate representation.

You can talk and shout all you want but when it comes to the vote, any policies that PAP wants to shaft down our throat, they can.
Think, the 6.9 million population white paper.

Of course they can. I am not talking about that, I am talking about a better performance from the WP so that even more seats can be won at the next GE. The more seats are in the oppo hands, the better. Nothing like scaring the PAP into changing some of these shit policies. 6 oppo seats don't scare them. but 35 will definitely shake them up. u can affect some change with these numbers. Not the changes u want, but some changes and moderation for sure. But first, the public has to see a WP that fights for them. The Public does not care whether the PAP is ramming bills pass the WP, it will happen because they are a small minority. the public want to see someone fighting for them. Roy is nice, but the WP is even better.

There have been some interesting posts buried in various threads about WP as result of Roy's event. Thought this thread should capture them

Papsmearer Papsmearer is online now

Default Do you notice something missing fronm this Roy Ngerng episode?
Where is the support for Roy from the opposition? I have yet to see any WP speak out in support for Roy and criticize the gay Loong's lawsuit. They can surely give him moral support, or verbal support, if not actual financial support, bit choose not to. Are they saying that they disagree with Roy's comments on the CPF (other than the misappropriation part)? Where do they stand on this? I am quite surprised to see WP completely ignoring this whole lawsuit on their website and in Parliament. At the very least, they can table a question as to whether the Prime Minister is using taxpayer money or his own money to pursue this legal action. After, all that is govt business to find out how govt. money is spend. Lets look at the WP senior members:

1) Pritam SIngh - a Practicing lawyer.
2) Chen SHow Mao- a lawyer.
3) Sylvia Lim - a senior partner at a law firm and a law lecturer

So many lawyers and not one of them has volunteered to help Roy? Roy himself estimates that his legal bills will be $70K. But non of these WP lawyers plan to provide some pro bono work for him? Same goes for all the other oppo parties. Its a fact that Roy's blog resonates with many singaporeans. i would have thought that being allied with Roy would at least raise their profile in a positive way. It really makes me thing that the WP is just a fake oppo.

I don't know if WP is fake or not. The 2016 provides the most fertile ground for them to takeover. If they fail, the WP needs a new leader.

No, its because non of them speak up for singaporeans that have pressing issues on their minds like CPF. And Roy did. They are at a crossroad. On one path, suck PAP lancheow all the way like they are doing right now and quietly take their $16K a month. On the other hand, stand up and be counted and condemn the PAP 2.5%, moving targets, and minimum sums and any other shit policy from the PAP. This is the crossroad, understand or not?

WP is a big let down to the opposition voters. Just take a look at their website, it is a JOKE! Many of us voted WP simply because we dislike the PaP more. WP is very much aware of this fact and milked it to the maximum.

But WP, hope you reading this.. please do not take our votes for granted, you jolly well stop being the B team. We are not daft and we are watching!

The ground is fertile for the demise of the PAP. That should be the goal. I see no reason why the WP would want to exist just to be the Official Opposition. It is time sinkapore go on a different path of development. Enough of the money-centric growth plan.

Bro, its crossroads, not end of the road.

They have to choose a path where they can build on their success. There is an opportunity to do more in Parliament and on topical public issues. It will build solid foundation and bring even even more qualified persons.

We cannot have another Chiam See Tong's scenario. I now sure if you are aware that good quality people did not want to join SPP because they heard about his style. Can you imagine his no. 2 for so long is an idiot.

They are still the best opposition party now and for the foreseeable future. They already have a good slate of new candidates, 2 really good and the 3 are better than the majority of PAP current MPs. I reckon they will take East Coast.

Perhaps the WP has decided to let the social activist take the lead and seek not to politicize the CPF issue. Comes election time, the CPF issue must be on the forefront for the WP.

You sure wp never ever engage the pap before and just kept quiet all the time? You forgot that paliamentary debate?

yes, the WP missed a golden opportunity in the Anton casey case. The whole country hated the fucker, so much so that he had to flee the country. Even PAP Minister Shan did not miss the opportunity to ride the public sentiment when he condemned Anton publicly. Yet where is the WP? They cannot even issue a statement saying that his action was "dissappointing"? They should have been front and centre whacking this guy. The PAP prides itself on racial harmony but lets in angmo citizens that are rascist against the locals? WTF. It should have been a field day for the WP. Like shooting fish in a barrel to make political hay. But not a squeak from them. Like i said, fake oppo, PAP B team.

That's right perhaps so. I think being an mp of an opposition party is different from being someone like roy with no party affiliations. Someone doesn't have to be in the spotlight all the time right.

Simi lancheow parliamentary debate? Do you know a wayang show when you see one or not? After all the debate, how did they vote? For or against the PAP policies? Their voting record is overwhelmingly in line with the PAP. Other than the population white paper, everything is going along with the PAP.

Yes Shan grabbed the opportunity. He also did the same with taxi driver who was killed by the drunk PRC moron. Opportunities like these are fews and far between. Agree on even issuing a statement.

I found it odd when LTK, PEH, SL, Pritam, JJ etc can be fiery and difficult when they want to be. I saw the way LTK admonished Teo Chee Hean and made him small during the post BE press conference. And he screwed the press as well. Pritam and SL after 2011 began to come out as well JJ. After AIM and the recent accounts, they began to withdraw.

I wondering if they are preparing for the PAP onslaught expected after the audit on their accounts is completed. And we know what the PAP is going to do.

What nonsense. Come elections time, so many issues will be in the forefront, not only CPF, but overcrowding, cost of living, loss of jobs, FTs taking over, cost of housing, rising medical expenses, loss of education spots, etc. u wait until than to bring all these issues up, the voter will be giddy. Bring up all the issues NOW. Educate the voters on the issues NOW. Than when the elections come, you only have to REMIND them and do a REVISION with them on the issues. Don't ask them to assimilate so much information at the last minute.

WP buggers in parliament enjoy parliamentary privileges , so should lambast the PAP at every turn, throw rocks at them, ridicule them and make them squirm in their pants with difficult questions that will reveal the PAP's ignorance on and loss touch of the ground. Agree so many opportunities were let thru. When one watches the debates in UK parliament, one can get a sense of what we are missing and what we should deserve to get. That is what is meant by checks and balances. Sitting prettily does not cut it.

Listen to what HHH and Roy are asking. Surely the WP does not need an English professor to teach them?

Even the more reason for them to keep up the pressure and continue the onslaught on the PAP. If you know they are going to fix u thru your accounting, than whack them all the way. When that story breaks, the voters will be critical of the PAP trying to silence an oppo party thru accounting nonsense. Go down fighting, hide for fuck?

OK la wp lousy la. Flame them ok.

Even if this be so, surely WP can reel with the punches, play tee gong and come back with a roundhouse kick?
