But we live in a society and in this society, growth, or more specifically, economic growth is the only way we know. For this to happen, population needs to grow. Inside me, I can say our company is doing okay and sales volume and profits are healthy, let's keep things the way they are. But I can't say that to my boss, he wants growth, and expects it, otherwise, we all have to go. He knows no other way and I doubt if any other employee has the balls or guts to tell him enough is enough, let's settle for what we have.

Unless we have another economic model, we have to accept that we are capitalistic pigs. I wish I know a better way that is workable. Yes, we have to accept that, and learn to live or adapt to it.

I was giving what you said some thought of how this might be resisted and can't come up with anything workable. Is Singapore going to accept a zero percent growth as acceptable? Just listen to the news report - quarterly growths, annual growth, over the last fiscal year, over the last couple of years. The name of the game we've all gotten used to is - growth. Applying this to population growth, is it going to be organic growth (from within)? If not, then it has to be from foreigners coming to Singapore. The social impact is what makes this difficult to swallow, but I don't see any other way. Your choices will then boil down to - Ah Neh, Ah Tiong, or Ahmads to make the 6.9, or 8 millions.

The fees that foreigners have to pay for medical and education are already bad. No subsidised housing is another obstacle for them. Not to mention most will never be able to afford a car. But overall, Peesai is still attractive for many of them to earn a wage in Sing dollars and send some back home. Singapore is not home to them, they will leave after their contract is over to be reunited with families, I think Singaporeans should make their stay more welcome, that is the human thing to do.

Agree. And it doesn't take a scholar to notice that. I've said before that Singapore was already crowded in the nineties, it is more crowded now and will only get more crowded in the future. High density living (and tolerance) is part of the culture in Singapore. I take a break to somewhere quiet whenever I get a chance, others will have to find their way.

I can't visualize a right-winged group in Singapore. The military commanders who join politics are PAP supporters, and general or not I don't see any of them able to handle a school-yard brawl let alone beat up foreigners (I can tell, I am not a fighter but I can take on one-to-one any of your military generals). There are no right or left winged politics in Singapore. Singaporeans have been de-politicised two generations ago.

If they continue to take up road-sweepers, dish-washers (actually some sg ppl would want these jobs too.. those who don't hold even primary education.. those who got out from prison and desperate for jobs), waiters, cleaners, construction workers... (actually.. if all these jobs give decent wages, sg ppl will not shun them.. let's face it.. this is the truth!!)

The fact is.. more and more foreigners are not coming in to take up lower end jobs.. and more of them are not at the lower end of the Wealth indicators too. They can afford not only ONE car.. but TWO or THREE!! They can afford CONDOS.. and they still go buy re-sale flats to do what they can to EARN even more here!!

Why should I welcome these LOT? Pinoys whose qualifications are perhap dubious.. and whose universities can't even compare to NUS, NTU or any of our Polytechnics.. and they get Executive jobs.. whereas our own grads are left out?!!!

Fark them!! Get back to their own country and help it prosper!! Don'w come here to earn our SG dollars to get richer when they return back home.
