Two elderly pedestrians have fallen victim to accidents in the past two days. One of them - a 72-year-old Chinese woman died.

She was hit by a vehicle near Block 2 of Jalan Bukit Merah yesterday evening. She was pronounced by paramedics at around 4.47pm.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman said the woman had suffered multiple fractures and serious head injuries.

In an email to citizen journalism website STOMP, a passer-by 'Dominic' said he heard a loud bang and saw the aftermath of the fatal accident.

"I thought it was an accident involving cars at first but it turned out that it involved a pedestrian."

He said that many pedestrians jaywalk at an U-turn along Jalan Bukit Merah Road.

A second elderly person was injured in an accident today morning.

He was reportedly hit by a bus near Block 89 of Circuit Road.

A SCDF spokesman said they received a call informing them of the accident at 8.13 am.

When an SCDF team arrived on the scene, the old man was unconscious.

The man - who is in his seventies - was suffering from serious head injuries and was taken to Changi General Hospital.

A police spokesman said that investigations are "ongoing".

In an email to STOMP, 'Phyu' said he saw the man lying on the ground and was bleeding from the head. 'Phyu' was traveling on SBS bus number 65 when it stopped suddenly.

"The old man was losing a lot of blood from his head. He wasn't moving but was still breathing".

Blame the pedestrain. Never use the crossing facility provided such at crossing at junction/zebra crossing/overhead brigde/tunnel.
They want short cut then they have to pay for the price maybe short cut their life.

The one at Jalan Bukit Merah was incorrectly reported. It didn't happened yesterday afternoon, it happened on Sunday afternoon, I know coz I was there. Some asshole in front of me E-brake to get a good look of the accident at the other side of the road. KNN bloody moron almost caused both of us to get into an accident:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

The particular stretch where the accident took place has a lot of Jaywalkers crossing directly to the other side from the bus stop despite the fact that there are 2 traffic lights about 50m

Why blame the driver. So many jaywalker. Some time very hard to spot then if they cross the road block by lorry/bus. Suddenly dash out. Me also nearly hit then few time. Now when ever I saw people jaywalk I will horn. Hope they will learn a lesson.,

I always slow down when driving in older estate. Many old people staying there and they walk rather slow. One hit and they're gone. Very troublesome.
