Man arrested at the scene of MacPherson HDB block fire

A 44-year-old man has been arrested after a fire broke out on Monday night (4 May) at a MacPherson HDB block, reports the Straits Times.
“Eight people were assessed for smoke inhalation and conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH),” said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post. The post also revealed that two firefighters were sent to SGH as a “precaution” after they felt unwell during the firefighting operation at Block 14, Joo Seng Road.
“Upon arrival, fire was seen raging inside a unit on the 18th floor. The fire, which engulfed the whole unit, was extinguished by firefighters with two water jets,” said SCDF. “Preliminary findings indicate that the fire could have been intentionally started.”
