The freaking weather is atrocious !! Hot and stuffy as in a oven .....

You threw NS men with MCs into the guardroom? You can be court martialled for ill-treatment (in my army days)!

Typical sinkie attitude towards life. It's because of employees like you that companies prefer to hire foreigners with a better work ethic.

In my good old army days, I used to throw my soldiers into the guardroom for 10 days for this sort of behavior.

They tried to get MCs by lying to the MO. They were caught out and were charged for malingering and sentenced to detention.

it's really hot and humid. i find myself switching on the air-con more often. time to get a power fan soon.

Not every Singaporean is like that, there are some who have not taken a single day worth of MC for more than 5 years and still working around the clock. There are also NSFs who really did their duty, not every single one is a skiving malingerer.

Offences such as DB is only for serious offences and can only be awarded by CO's and above. He must first be charged.

I don't know what the SAF act states now but in my time, the OC was the JDO could sentence a PTE or LCP to max 10 days detention. The CO (SDO) could dish out up to 40 days.

This is one of the two misting fan I got for myself. One for my apartment and the other in one of my office.
This is a mist generating fan and the mist will get evaporated the moment it's dispensed. This evaporation creates a cooling effect and can easily lower the surrounding temperature by 2-3 degrees. This is not a water droplets type so the place won't get moist. You can place your hand there and you won't feel the moisture but just the cooling effect. Only problem is you need to top up the water every 7-8 hours for continous supply of cool wind. At least you don't get hot wind coming from the fan.

In Singapore it is not the heat but but the humidity(80 - 90%) that is the killer. Coupled with a windless day which is usually the case(Singapore is surrounded by land mass at 4 points of the compass), the heat is unbearable these days.

I doubt misting works very well if humidity is above 85%. There is also the danger of Legionella disease. Make sure you only use boiled drinking water.

"Legionella bacteria can be found naturally in water sources in the environment. They may colonise poorly designed or maintained water systems such as mist generating systems and misting fans (or devices). When people, especially those with weak immunity, are exposed to the mist or water aerosols containing legionella bacteria, they may acquire legionnaires' disease or Pontiac fever, which are collectively known as legionellosis. To reduce the risk to public health due inhalation of legionella bacteria, it is important to minimise the conditions favouring bacteria proliferation in such water systems and thereby reduce the human exposure to contaminated mist or water aerosols. The owner(s) and operator(s) of the mist generating systems or misting fans shall ensure that:

  • The system shall be made from corrosion resistant materials that can withstand the pressure of the water aerosolized.
  • The design of the system shall be such that the water is drained off during the standby conditions to avoid proliferation of bacteria in stagnant water.
  • Misting fans shall be installed at such a height or in a manner that the intense stream of mist (as it leaves the nozzle) is not blown directly at a person’s face.
  • The water used to produce the mist shall be of drinking water quality.
  • The system shall be equipped with a UV lamp or such other antimicrobial device after the filter, to disinfect the water and minimize the proliferation of microbiological growth .
  • All chokages (at nozzles or spray heads) shall be cleared promptly. The entire system (including interior piping, nozzles, pump, antimicrobial device, etc.) shall be cleaned and disinfected by a competent person, at least once every three months (or more frequently if recommended by the manufacturer) and kept in a good working condition.
  • When a system is switched on, care shall be taken to avoid exposure of initial mist stream to any person. For systems that have been shut down for five days or more, cleaning and disinfection of the entire system shall be carried out before switching the system on.
  • Records of any remedial or maintenance work, inspection or test carried out shall be kept and made available for inspection."
