All these usually the bride "want face" issue pressure the groom to pay deposit than boom...many of my frens married tiongs and had theirs taken in places like Hainan and fuoshan same package in cost about 20% to 30% same quality
Also many pte run child care which is the majority likes to charge a deposit and upon enrolment will tell you the payment day for fees is on the 1st of the month meaning up front you may have to pay up to 2 plus months plus pro ration esp if you enrol your child in last week of month...again cda deducts this amount from a childs Cda account on the 5th via giro hence again a fucked up practice that nobody governs...doing so as it makes the parents feel guilty if they decide to switch schools..
These bridal studios usually registers with acra so there will be some nric there...just impound the passport..a cheat is far worse than a bankrupt so if such complaints are made the passport should be impounded as well...also if found guilty should go prisons...no reason to mess around with people deposit as no stock (if smart) is held...
