SG is the richest country in the region or SEA, 2nd richest country in asia.

OKay i won't deny it's location is very good for entrepot trading. The development by the British also aided to its status of a developed country yet the same can be said of matland.

Bro, I think you are talking about socialism which the European countries are practising but had fail miserably. They have hefty income taxes to pay for their socialist health care and un employment benefits.
You create a super LTA running the transport company with only drivers. who is going to plan the routes, the fare structures and how to invest the money that LTA received. The rentals of the shops and the advertising space. Further , what about the replacement of capital equipments. You think the drivers knew about such things.
Everbody knows that running a supermarket is a kanchang puteh business but if you a big boy like ntuc than you are creating revenues using the supplier's credit facilities. The amount of credit ntuc receive amount to a few hundred millions dollars a month. you can do wonders with that kind of money.

I guess that is also the reason why the government wants to run so many businesses and also do not give preference to local suppliers over foreign based ones or those that depend mainly on foreign labour. I will applaud the government if their businesses can really succeed in overseas markets instead of behaving like monopolies in Singapore.
