No, so called “doctors” who work on the basis of giving patients “what they want” are at best nothing more than glorified pharmacy dispensers and in reality nothing more than crooks in green robes. Jardine was a ship’s surgeon who found that smuggling opium (or cannabis) was more in line with his true character. It won’t be long before you’re hauled up to face an ethics committee.
Aiyah of course have to work within the rules lah.
There are guidelines and there are risks and dangers in medicine. Just like when you trade. Of course my risk is much lower and clear cut very easy to read.
Opioid addict wants opioids? Of course need to be careful. I have done the course and I do have the clearance from the college to prescribe opioid agonist therapy. The way it works is we help keep the drug addicts off the street and away from possible adulterated street drugs by giving them methadone or suboxone daily observed consumption. I dont practice this at the moment but have colleagues who do.
Obviously any doctor who gives patients what they want to the point it endangers the patients or puts them at risk is doing a very bad thing and should be disciplined.
But in most cases we are not dealing with dangerous medicine or addictive medicines. I have been asked to explain why I didnt agree to prescribe 300 tablets of sleeping pills to a hongkie who complained to college. I explained. College cleared me.
I am the doctor that will listen to you, do what you want that will help you not kill you or endanger you. I will also listen to you on what you dont want to have done but of course the inaction cannot kill you or endanger you either. I am not the doctor that will tell you to do something just because I am rhe doctor and you are the patient. Patient first all the way! Limit is if what you ask is totally illegal, might kill or hurt you, or ethically unacceptable. One example is patients asking me to write false insurance claims or lying on letters. Cannot lah.
Sorry I am being too argumentative to be a "good" "doctor" in your eyes. Good thing you will never be my patient and I never will be your doctor. Lol!
Anyway you are loaded no need waste time see family doctor lah. Just see specialists. Australia has private arm right? Some practices require you to pay a sum while they still bill the state.
