I stayed in Shanghai for a few years. I no longer reside there. However, memories lingers.

This thread intend to capture the various Shanghai scene that could be found in the internet.

Will start with the Pudong Bund:

This is a newer picture of the Bund at Pudong.

Noticed the World Financial Center (the one that looked like a bottle opener) at the background.

Also noticed the hazy sky.

This is a picture of the older Shanghai Pundong bund without the WFC.

JinMao Tower, on the right, which housed Hyatt Hotel was the tallest building then.

The iconic Pearl Tower stands tall. Still it actually lower than the JinMao Tower. Just the angle of the picture taken.

Noticed the clear sky. It is very rare to have such beautiful 蓝天白云.

Noticed too not so many highrise crowding the background.

Those were the happy days where traffic is smooth flowing.

Too bad the picture just missed the HUGE LED display panel on the Aurora building.

The iconic Pearl Tower

One could get a good view of the whole of Shanghai on a good day.

However when the sky is hazy, don't waste your money going up.

Another nite view of the Pearl Tower

Light display is always fascinating.

I always wonder how much energy is put into lighting up these places.

In Shanghai, it is very common to have flood shining up the sky. Laser beams from the Puxi side too.

This is a new picture as it showed the connecting ring in the foreground connecting the Super Brand Mall - a huge shopping centers to the MRT station to the Pearl Tower.

This is Shanghai's World Financial Center.

The Shanghai World Financial Center was planned to be the tallest building in the world when it was designed in 1997. The 97 Story building would surpass the spires of the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. When Construction was restarted in 2003, the 508 Meter Taipei 101 in Taiwan was already underway to becoming the World's Tallest Building. Plans where changed but the Tower couldn’t be built any higher than its present height at 492 meters since the already done foundation was meant to support a 460 meter tall building.

At 480 meters, the Shanghai World Financial Center is the second tallest building in the world as of 2008. It is 16 meters shorter than the 508 meter Taipei 101 in Taiwan, although this is because of the spire atop Taipei 101. Counting by roof height the Shanghai World Financial Center is a full 44 meters taller than Taipei 101.

It looks like a bottle opener isn't it?

I have always wonder when will some helicoptors or small aircrafts fly thru the hole.

Noticed the still empty road servicing the building then?

This is the Jin Mao Tower which housed the Shanghai Grand Hyatt.

Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel which occupies floors 53 to 87. It is one of the highest hotels in the world, second in Shanghai only to its sister property, the Shanghai Park Hyatt, occupying the 79th to 93rd floors of the immediately adjacent Shanghai World Financial Center. These have since been surpassed by the The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, which occupies floors 102 to 118 of the International Commerce Centre. However, the tallest building to be used exclusively as a hotel is the Burj Al Arab in Dubai (excluding the taller Ryugyong Hotel which was never in use). Additionally, the world's longest laundry chute runs down the full length of the tower to the basement, and incorporates buffers to slow down the laundry during its descent.

This is an early days picture.

The Hyatt's famous barrel-vaulted atrium starts at the 56th floor and extends upwards to the 87th. Lined with 28 annular corridors and staircases arrayed in a spiral, it is 27 m in diameter with a clear height of approximately 115 m. It is one of the tallest atriums in the world, the tallest being Burj Al Arab's.

Nice place and miss that place, but I don't miss the peoples over there.

Yes, they talk very loud. Spitting all over and you can spot some of them wee-ing along the roadside.

Shanghainess always looking down on fellow Chinese especially those from other provinces.

And being the fashion capital of China, you find folks wearing pajamas with high heel at shopping center.

Still on the whole, after some years and having made adjustment, I fell in love with the city.

Made some very good local friends along the way too.

By the day, the Puxi side of the bund is boring old Euro architectural styles. Some may like it.

To me, it is the light up at the Puxi side of the bund that makes it a wonderful sight.

3_On_the_Bund.jpg

The picture shows 3 on the Bund. It house a high end (read expensive) resturant.

Another high end resturant is M on the Bund. It is located on the next block.

Early reservation is necessary to ensure a sitting with the bund view. Otherwise you end up with a table without view.

Enjoy.
