Starbucks is everywhere. You find them here as well as in the Great Wall of China.

It is a very good meeting place.

When visiting this place be very careful about your belongings. Be alert and avoid those crowded festives day.

Not only will it be packed with all kinds of people, service level such as food will have queue extra long time.

Going to Yu Yuan aka Cheng Huang Mioa for leisure, must try the xiao long bao

1056083_01_1.jpg

Try to suck the juice from the bao before putting the rest of the bao in your mouth. Be warn... the juice are pipping hot. Your tongue may be burnt if you are not careful.

Where to eat them? Walk around the main square and you find a queue in front of a resturant or food prep place. Join the queue and place your order. It is as simple as that. If you want to be served, climb up the stairs next to the order place. The food is exactly the same. Only the price is different and instead of grumpy men serving you, pretty mei mei will be there.

The big bao is also a must try.

Be warn again ... about those hot hot juice.

There was once I was with a Singaporean friend, catching up at Yu Yuan. We ordered the big bao. It was during the Christmas week. The food were served. But we are more interested in catching up. So we chatted and chatted.

Then we realised that the bao has turned cold. We decided to eat it quickly. There is no juice left. We opened the bao up and we found the juice has coagulated. Instead of liquid yummy juice, we saw a thick layer of fats. Gosh.

And now the temple itself. Ticket must be purchased before entering.

Once inside, it is just like any other temple. Except folks said that this temple is specially good in answering your prayer.

Folks burning joss sticks. They are available for sale inside the temple.

Shopping is a big thing in Yu Yuan.

Besides what you see in the pictures, you find goldsmith shops, tea shops, antique shops and shops selling the usual touristy stuff like t-shirt, bags, shoes etc etc

Walk along the main road, you find some old buildings. Wonder inside, and there are plenty of feng shui stuff there. Also lots of Mao's items too.

But no, you don't find fake ping golf sets on sale here.

And yes, McDonalds' is there too... along the main road.

Peoples' Square

This is the central of Shanghai. If you are in Shanghai and that place is say 15 km from Shanghai, then it is measured 15 km from this place - the Peoples' Square (人民广场)

In Beijing you have Tiananmen Square while in Shanghai it is the Peoples' Square.

The Peoples' Squre is where Shanghai Municipal government HQ is located.

Two pictures of the People's Square.

What is interesting is the huge shopping place underground connecting the metro lines (aka MRT). It is very easy to get lost while in there. Be very careful of your wallet especially during festive seasons such as CNY. Pickpockets are out in large force.

Located at the fringe of the Peoples' Squre is this Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.

Do make a point visiting this place. It is very educational.

In it you find the history of Shanghai. Quite interesting. More important, you will be able to find out the future, the plan and the current developments of Shanghai.

Near the Peoples' Squre is the Nanjing Lu.

This is one tourist spot and I don't know how many got fleece there.

shanghai_nanjing_lu.jpg

This is the pedestrian mall which link the People's Square to virtually the Bund on the Puxi side.

A serious advice to all: IF YOU ARE APPROACHED BY ANYBODY, NEVER EVER FOLLOW THEM.

The touts will have lots of "good sexy lobang". Once you take their bait and follow them, you are likely to end up in what we call 黑店 aka black shop. Folks are known to end up swiping their credit cards to pay a few thousand S$ for some services which cost many times less.

If you are horny, go to reputable joints found in the sister site. Just remember: Never follow any touts.
