People were happiest when out population was about 2 to 2.5 million

Talking about shit, Singapore's Pulau Semakau will be filled up by 2040 and Singapore needs to find another 250 hectares of island to replace it. Already we have several incineration plants which in itself is not a good solution. Incinerators have met with public resistance in neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia, and have been banned in the Philippines because of perceived health risks.

Yet Singapore continues building more and more, and we are suppose to be a clean, green and super-efficient country. Singapore's unique rubbish headache stems from its small size and high population density and the government despite knowing the problem insist in increasing our population. Pretty soon the SHTF as 2040 will be 2030 if the population growth does not stop.:(

Those former Singaporeans may not notice that our spanking clean and green Singapore is a thing of the past. Without the foreign workers cleaning up, we are actually one of the dirtiest country in the world, aided by 2 million foreigners from Timbuktu who are also currently living here and messing up the country.

Japan is the cleanest country in the world and they are the ones doing the cleaning.

Rubbish. I lived there when the population was below 3 million and I was really miserable. I wanted to sell stuff but the local market was simply too small. The internet wasn't around in those days to extend the reach of an enterprise beyond national borders.

When the PAP started growing the population, I was overjoyed. The opportunities grew by the bucketload. It was an excellent and prudent move by the government and I shall be forever grateful.

1. Singapore's market had been small I agree but its still small today and will continue to be small in the foreseeable future. This is in comparison to the much larger cities and countries around us.

2. The internet was not around those days in Singapore I have to fully agree. It also wasn't around for most countries in those days so everyone was one the same level playground those days. (just in case, the internet is not an invention of PAP so in case we want to thank them there is no need to).

3. The PAP through failed policy is guilty of disrupting (stopping) population growth if not our parents would have bred more true blue sinkie offspring and the population numbers would have been naturally where we are now not artificially inflated through imports adversely affecting social harmony in the motherland.

4. Curiously puzzled likewise if I were to be "forever grateful" for the bucket loads of growing opportunities from the government's sound policies I wouldn't have packed up lock, stock and barrel and run-road to Siam for a really bigger market, more opportunities, ability to control my own finances and destiny. No?

I drove from Choa Chu Kang to Paya Lebar just now thru Fri evening peak hours and it took me only 35 minutes.

While you were driving it took me less than 35 seconds to make wet and by the time you reached P.Lebar you were peak dripping.

Yes they grew much more than expected and this then resulted in higher property prices which is creating the property bubble. It is now a big headache for the PAP government because the cost of living will increase in tandem. Singaporean properties are getting out of reach for the ordinary masses and the as the nation continues to battle high property prices, it became the first in Asia to impose curbs on industrial properties, whose prices have doubled in the past three years and outpaced the increase in rents. The government last week imposed as much as 15 percent in stamp duties on sellers of industrial properties such as warehouses and logistics buildings to curb speculation.

Now, the hawkers are worried that higher rentals will see them go out of business, which in turn will affect their customers who will have no place to go for meals at decent prices.

It's fine when you're just a kid but when you have to earn a living, it's a different story altogether.

That's why I admire the PAP so much. They know what is important. There's no point having an island that's pleasant if it's not economically sustainable.

After squeezing everything out from our growth potential, there will be no economic advancement left for future generations of Singaporeans, who will have no choice but to emigrate in order to avoid economic stagnation, high inflation, and massive overcrowding.
