Singapore Air, Qantas’ Diverging Fortunes Show Covid Disparities

While not out of the woods just yet, Qantas said Thursday it expects revenue from routes within Australia to almost double in the six months through June from the second half of last year. The airline and its low-cost unit Jetstar have added 38 routes since July to cater to people jetting around the essentially Covid-free country while international travel remains off limits.

Singapore Airlines doesn’t have the luxury of a home market, let alone a giant one like Australia. Even a slither of potential revenue from a quarantine-free travel bubble agreement with Hong Kong has gone now that the plan has been shelved once again due to an uptick in virus cases in Singapore. On Wednesday, Singapore Airlines posted a record annual loss of S$4.3 billion ($3.2 billion).

Their diverging fortunes reflect the state of the wider global aviation industry and world in general. https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/singapore-air-qantas-diverging-fortunes-show-covid-disparities-1.1606102

Actually SIA can offer "flights to nowhere" experiences within Singapore. Make their own so called domestic market.
Of all the airlines is SIA the only one with no domestic market? Finished if fhe pandemic lasts another 2 to 3 years.

In the past six months, SIA has been laundering south asian passengers and transit them from Singapore to different countries. HK and Aust already flagged us.

Now we have the outbreak from Changi Airport.
Singapore will finish before SIA finish.

I doubt this can be a good proposal. Even their "Meals-On-Board" gimmick also didn't really take off and have discontinued. The best way is to downsize both their fleet and manpower. No choice, have to bite the bullet and cut loss, just like buying stocks and shares.

Space travel more complicated lah. Need oxygen. Gravity. Food. Re entry.

Dont think SIA or even Temasek got that kind of budget.

Energy is abundant in sg. I never hear any concerns about energy shortage or fuel shortage or electricity grid issues in SG do you?

National financial disaster is much more extensive then these few companies. Look at ST. They are bleeding cash. If MINDEATH and SAF did not buy all their shit at huge mark up, they would have been bankrupt

With almost $13billion in debts and continued losses in India, with only $0.8billion cash-in-hand, can Singtel's new leadership cope with these liabilities? How much assets will Singtel have to lelong (erode NTA) to meet these debt obligations?
