Moratorium on the renting out of a whole HDB flat

Moratorium on the renting out of a whole HDB flat
Until and unless HDB flat prices come down to a 'decent level' there ought to be a moratorium on the renting out of a whole HDB flat.

This is because Public Housing ought to remain public, meaning for the good of Singaporeans and whomsoever is granted PR status.

Rich Singaporeans who are staying in pte housing and renting out their HDB flat are hogging public apartments at the expense of poorer Singaporeans who can ill afford public housing, since many such apartments are not appropriately used as citizens housing but as rental houses for profit (foreigners being the principle tenants I believe).

The renting out by SG owners of whole HDB flats would have been acceptable during a period of HDB flat glut, but where such public housing is in short supply (to the extent of impacting upon public housing affordability and thus national birth rates), then the time has come, I think, for a policy change that bars such practice.

(A family may however be allowed to own BOTH pte and HDB properties- but given their wish to participate in a public housing scheme, the family MUST stay in the HDB property so long as they own it- participating in the public scheme, the said family then CANNOT have any other property benefiting from the 'owner occupied' discounted property tax scheme- the HDB address should be stated on their IC and it is to this address that ALL legal/ govt correspondence be sent- failing which, a forced auction of the HDB flat to qualified bidders should be enforced.)

No participant in a public housing scheme should be so distanced from the 'Public Housing' concept that he should whilst living in a state of excess, exploit a limited, 'subsidized' public housing scheme for personal financial gain.

One cannot have one's cake and eat it. A family enjoying pte living benefits from BOTH i) property tax discounts for owner occ. property (pte property) ii) rental profit from the renting out their whole HDB flat (property tax even at full rate is nominal because of govt policy/ discounts etc).

Additional legislature should HDB flat supply still NOT meet population demands would be to restrict the size of HDB flat owned to 'the number of registered inhabitants + 3 rooms'. i.e a single registered 'occupant' may only own an up to 4 room apt etc. (some time exceptions/ concessions may be given to families with deceased members to comply)- this would ensure that all HDB flats are optimally used. Only Citizens and PRs can be reg as 'occupant(s)', foreigners have to be reg as 'tenants' and their numbers do NOT count towards ownership right to a HDB flat for a larger size.

Post script:
- The BAR on renting out of full HDB flats would ensure that ALL foreigners to SG are able to either (i) stay with a Singaporean in a HDB flat (contribute financially to Singaporean family and 'integrate' as well), or, (ii) are of a talent and income sufficient to deserve private housing.

When Singaporeans need money to survive, the PAP disallowed them them rent out whole unit to earn rental and punished them by taking back the unit from them.

However, HDB won't rent flats to Singaporeans and put them on years of waiting list.

Worst still that is when WHOLE BLOCK of HDB were rented out to PAP crony firms to be rented out freely and by whole unit to FOREIGNERS!

That is the truth.

In Jurong West even RC opposed to that whole block rented to foreigners because the neighborhood got fucked up by too many foreigners. Still HDB will proceed with their plans.

Some areas in Toa Payoh got en bloc and the residents thought the govt is re-building new flats. In fact it was re-painted, fitted certain floors with air-con and rent out the few blocks to foreigners.

All these years of not enough land is a lie. song bo?

  1. home owners to rent out whole unit is unlawful, but for them to rent out the entire block of flats is lawful & very well justified.
  2. home owners to sublet rooms to tenants, to defray costs for the apartment, the znghu wanna draw levy.
  3. home owners wanna sell unit to liquidate the asset, znghu say, 50% of liquidated asset must be used for buying new (overpriced & smaller) apartment.

with all the new f*cked up dbl standard policies... im really very curious how did marlboroman retain his ricebowl?

Such a policy is against the PAP. Can you imagine all the empty rooms now being offloaded to the public for rent? The supply of these new rooms will lead to a fall in demand and a drop in prices leading to a drop in GDP!

If GDP drop that means PAP look bad. CANNOT!

Hi Mr PAP Poodle. C,
PAP/ GDP, I dun really care about in this case.

What I intend in authoring dis, is to free up 'Subsidized' Public Housing flats (which are currently being hogged and manipulated by wealthy citizens and PRs- the likes of 'Sinha Shekhar') whom in their quest for their own selfish gain, continue to hog public housing (PH) whilst shamelessly complaining on govt websites about "low returns" during this time of national lack- as proven by the sky rocketing PH prices, COVs etc; such blatant profiteering behavior at the expense of national integrity and cohesiveness cannot be condoned.

The govt claims that SGporeans aren't 'producing' enough babies, thus the need to invite foreigners, however, this dearth of babies is probably because some wealthier Singaporeans, blatantly profiteering from lax PAP housing rules, have turned public housing programmes into private investment schemes, thus the sky rocketing of HDB prices and so the dearth of babies by young Singaporeans who cannot find anymore 'affordable public housing'.

These unpatriotic wealthier Singaporeans are simply shamelessly profiteering from public housing schemes at a time of national need.

Why is the gini coefficient in Singapore ever increasing?

Whilst I agree that GDP is an issue that ought to be watched, I remain cautious about how many people a small island can indeed hold, especially in the light of issues posed by global warming- sea level rises, floods, disease etc- that would kill and aggrieve many more given the population density of our small island country.

Pls remember: floods (rain/ sea lvl rises) = sewers overflow = shit floats everywhere = disease strikes = country resources overwhelmed = people die.

I dunno what PAP wants, but I dun want people to die.

Other measures of income inequality also indicated similar trend of increasing disparity in household income". [link]

The PAP knows all of this problems because it created this problems.

The job of the PAP is to increase the GDP so that they can have good salary. They bring in FTs so that they can sell houses and rent houses to the FTs.

You are Singaporean so you have to vote for APs and forget about the PAP ever doing anything good for you.

When was the last time the PAP dis something good for you? Can you remember?

yes yes of course, lets stop all this rental nonsense. lets squeeze out all the citizens who are renting flats out. This will allow HDB via EM Services to thrive in the rental of flats that were bought back during SERS

Many PRs simply rent the whole unit and sub-lease to people from the same village. It must be a torture to live with Singaporeans.
