Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, even Indonesia, all doing reasonably well.

South Koreas had an autocratic regime supported by the US. It had anti liberal policies until the 80s and 90s before limited liberalisation occurred.

Same goes for Taiwan. Early Taiwan was no more a regime than that of the PRC. Policies were not that of laissez faire economy

After their economies were well developed, both Taiwan and South Korea embrace full democracy, particularly the civil and political rights for the citizens.

Both continue to do well, with vibrant and creative societies.

define full democracy. No country has full democracy. Active government intervention is needed.

Separation of powers among the Executive, Judiciary and Parliament, with independent media, independent judiciary, rule of law, freedom of expression, freedom of assemblies, civil, political, social, cultural and economic rights etc.

Can lead to too many factions vying for power. As in the case of Singapore. Too many political parties.

It will eventually lead to two dominant parties.

In the case of S'pore, with an independent media and judiciary and civil and political rights, more able men and women will participate in the political process thus leading to one strong and big opposition party utimately.

That's your dream not reality.

S'pore does not exist in a vacuum and has an obligation to follow international practices sooner or later.

Hard to say what interntional pratices are. Democracy is not the end state as Fukuyama said it to be

And who follows those? The US where citizens can call all PRC spies? Where anti Iraq war activists were investigated by the FBI? Where media stations are slanted to be pro Republican and pro Democrat.

UK, US, HK, Taiwan, South Korea etc and countless other democratic countries all adhere to democratic practices.

There is a spectrum of views in the US media. US citizens can read all they want and draw their own conclusions.

The reasons why democracies fail is because they are shitholes to begin with. Democracy only exposed an underlying rot. See USSR history and its fall.

In any event, analogies with poverty stricken 3rd world countries will only be appropriate if comparing Singapore in the 60s to them at their current level, not ver.2008! This is just common sense! Poland has adopted democracy, and its the fastest rising E European country. Switzerland has a multi party democracy, and it seems to serve them well.

The only reason against democracy in Singapore will be the risk of exposing any rot that is already festering underneath, not create it.

Please realise whatever your pappy masters tell you, the people here are not that stupid. You can only fool some of the people all of the time, and we are the 33.3% that is no longer fooled.

Is the torturing of prisoners in Guantanam o bay accepted in Democracy?

HK is liberal much only in its economic arena

US citizens do not draw their own conclusions. They are swayed by emotion and stupidity. That's why you can have thousands supporting a sport journalisim degree governor who may be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

There is not true democracy at all face it.
