Is the torturing of prisoners in Guantanam o bay accepted in Democracy?

HK is liberal much only in its economic arena

US citizens do not draw their own conclusions. They are swayed by emotion and stupidity. That's why you can have thousands supporting a sport journalisim degree governor who may be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

There is not true democracy at all face it.

Democratic countries like US, UK etc also need to deal with terrorists and the threats they pose to the free world. HK people can hold peaceful protests and demonstrations, have freedom of speech and assemblies, independent media and independent judiciary.

What's wrong with a sport journalism degree governor to become president?

Terrorists are also human. They don't desreve to be tortured. Besdies your dear SDP doesn't like that too. Isn't torturing contrary to democratic principles and human rights?

Would you like a inexperienced person to handle nuclear weapons and a large economy? Deomcracy is built on persuasion not people's rational decisions.

Protests are fine but do you like economies to come to stand still because of them?

Terrorists are inhuman. They have to be dealt with according to the power the governments possess.

No one is a born president. Democratic countries depend on a good functioning system and a team to govern, not on one person. The majority in any societies are made up of people with average intelligence and therefore able to make rational decisions.

Peaceful protests will not cause disruptions to the economy, only violent uprisings will.

That's your dream not reality.

Its reality in England; its reality in the Northern European countries; its reality in Holland, France and Germany; its reality in some asian democracies.

A two dominant party system can be good for a country, especially one as developed as ours. Its fear of change and our own maturity that stops us, but not reality.

I work from first principles, what will get me there - social peace and stability within the country, no fight between the races, between religions, fair shares for all, everybody is a homeowner,' he said.

Without LKY around, I wonder whether the future PAP after LHL can still maintain what LKY has left behind.

Terrorists are just misguided humans. Your SDP after all thinks Mas S was tortured to death

The majority in society are not of rational thinkers but go with the sway. The problem with Gordon Brown is clearly and example.

There is a thin lien between peaceful protests and violent uprisings. Ther is also a bigger line between useless protests (such as SDP during the IMF world bank meetings--the issue was on word economics not on freedom of speech) and protest campaigns to spread viable policies across--ie fair trade

I really don't know. Maybe it will get worse.Maybe it will be better. But whatever is going to happen to this island, there's no need to panic.Live the day and move on with the flow of events.

Maybe one day, we might have to remerge with Malaysia and be a humble little state.

They would fear change if the PAP puts in a campaign of fear of change. But gradual change, if done right, would be better for all. Sudden change, especially in social policies, and sometimes in economical one, usually do more harm than good.

Hard to attribute "success" to just one man. Yet stupider to just protest without having any party policies aiming at improving the nation.

He should just retire and tend the garden :_))) gardening leave as the Brits would say.

I still have great admiration of LKY's clarity of mind and his great ability to persuade S'poreans to accept some of PAP's unpopular policies which he feels is necessary in his usual frank and easy to understand manner. So far, I've not seen any younger ministers who have come to a distant close to LKY's exceptionally gifted talent.

After spending all his life building S'pore, I guess it would be impossible for LKY to leave politics and public office altogether.

SDP's policy is to demand that civil and political rights be returned to the people.

That is not what the people want. They want to know how the economy will be shaped, how the health policy will be shaped how defence, trade, foreign affairs and other areas which make a nation will be if there is a non PAP government. So far the SDP and others have not shown that

econ prosperity isn't everything. if lky is sincere in developing sg as a nation then he should give the people more freedom. he should know that without space there will be no inventiveness and creativity.
