MINDEF makes special allowance for PAP candidate

Lee Hsien Loong was born in 1952. He became an MP and a Minister of State at the age of 32, and became a full Minister at the age of 35.

He was promoted to the rank of BG in 1983, at the age of 31. He enlisted in the SAF (as a recruit) in 1971.

Assuming that he became a Second Lieutenant after passing out of OCS in 1972, it means that he was promoted across six ranks (2LT, LTA, CPT, MAJ, LTC, COL, BG) within 11 years. The ranks of CPT to COL have 2 grades each. Which means that he was promoted 10 times in 11 years, an average of one promotion every year.

31 yo became BG???

i only know one person in history who has such achievement...

only the legendary 岳飞achieved 节度使 at the age of 32 and that is during war time!!!

There is CPT Grade 1 and CPT Grade 2. No difference in terms of rank, but significant difference in terms of payscale. You will need to be promoted across both grades in order to become a Major.

All ranks from CPT to COL have two grades.

For normal degree holders, it takes 3-4 years to be promoted one grade, meaning that the jump from CPT to MAJ takes around 6-7 years. You will hardly see a 31 year old Major (apart from scholarship holders) let alone a 31 year old BG!
31 year old made BG is still a record....
Few came close but doubt anyone would be allowed to break prince Lee's record.
His brother LHY, Georgie Yeo, Kee Chew, Lim Chuan Poh were some of those who made BG in their early 30s.

LHL achieved all that while having 2 armed personal bodyguards 24/7 from BMT until ROD....

So many Paper Generals , Colonels and Majors , war come all charter C-130 and flee the cuntry

Promotion to certain people is like a game of "playing masak-masak". The only different is that it comes with real fat salary every month.

As for the fleeing part, why a C-130, when there are ample 1-380s standing by redundant.

Graduates start at Captain. So even some of the local training awardees will be made major after 3 years from graduation 19 (start university after one year of NS) + 4 (3 years graduates will not get promoted so fast) + 3 = 26.

If I am not wrong, the two-grade rank structure did not apply to overseas scholars. That is how GY could also make BG so young.

4 ranks - graduates start as Captain - 25-Major, 27-Lieutenant Colonel, 29-Colonel and 31-Brigadier General. So one promotion every two years.

Considering that he spent 4 years in university, it means that he only spent 7 years in active service before becoming BG.

Six ranks in 7 years. Go figure!!

Grads come in as LTA and will get their CPT/1 after 1 year.

OTA & LTA scholars goes through the same 2 grade rank structure.

I know of one LTA scholar went for board review and had his career accelerated, moved from CPT to MAJ very fast.

Heard that when he attended the ATCAO course, the mortar manpack module was deleted from the training manual.
When he was the CO of an arty unit, the rank and file got ice kachiang and chendol as part of the lunch menu, something like looking after the welfare of the men.

Chin chye Dr Koh lah. Chin chye lah, give chance lah, mai hiam liao lah.
He went though such tough times in the past, let him take and no need to give lah.

Sooner or later SAF NS man will be mobilise to PAP rallies to increase the crowd numbers.

SAF OTA and SAFOS are different schemes even if they go to the same university. SAFOS scholars do not go through 2 grade rank structure.

You sure the SAFOS don't start as captain or get promoted very soon after going back into active service? They get the 1st lieutenant one year into their studies.

LHL time scholars did not start as Capt.....
Most scholars were disruptees.....so enter NS at 19 passout OCS at 20 years old 2LT......then go for studies......21 years old LTA.......2 years later auto captain rank even if still in Uni........so 23 years old capt is possible then thereafter 2 years one rank up......like i said.......his father's army mah.

Same same with LHY when he was in Armour......OC in 40 SAR time even the CO must see his face color........then CO of 46SAR is welfare all the way.......machiam there to spend time only......he was very well-liked for that.

So are top officers are just paper leaders. They didn't get there because of relevant skills but based on their academic qualifications. How many billions we spent each year on defence? I bet quite a good amount were wasted by these paper generals. Unfortunately, we will never know because there is NO transparency in sinkapore.
