Member of public alerts police to loansharking activity

SINGAPORE - Two men, aged 41 and 19, have been apprehended by the police in two separate cases regarding loansharking activities.
The 41-year-old man was scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the wall of a HDB block on Sept 1 at about 9pm when a neighbour spotted him in the act.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division were alerted and the male suspect was subsequently detained in the vicinity after a search.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was responsible for loanshark harassments such as graffiti threats around the HDB estates in Sengkang and Hougang.
The second case saw police officers arresting a 19-year-old suspect in the vicinity of Telok Blangah Height on Sept 2 at about 9.05am.
The arrest was made after investigations revealed his involvement with loanshark harassments around Serangoon North Estate.
Investigations against the second suspect is on-going.
The male suspect in the first case will be charged in Court on Sept 3 for loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010).
