王昱清 has good acting skills but he's frequently given roles that glorify NS.

Not really lah, he was the main actor in the original NS series years ago, hence he was given the role as the new recruit's father and also csm/encik in the new series with Paige Chua as the PC. In fact, this role is supposed to be a continuity from the old series, i.e. he is supposed to be the same recruit who then became a regular. He acted very well as the baddie in the fish and chips series.

Btw, he also has a very interesting string of actress wives and/or gfs.

Well he did have a longer time to hone his skills.
When he first came out he was also wooden....and always typecasted as pretty boy.
Then he quit to sell insurance and later go into business....
When he returned he took on varying roles and got better.
Somehow those that left and came back their acting improved....maybe got some life experiences.....just like that Desmond Shen recently.
