"We came to the conclusion that in order to realise our objective of football excellence, a drastic overhaul was needed."

To generate interest once again... get Singapore Pools to give $20 vouchers for us to bet on S-league matches. Every Sinkies can use up to 5 pieces of such vouchers (write down IC no). Free vouchers can only be collected after every 'live' game at soccer stadium. Wat do u think?

I've said it before & I say it once more.
Goal 2010 was always destined to be just a pipe dream!
It's more correct to say "Own goal 2010" or "No goal 2010"
Dream on!

The dream is best served when one fine day we start beating teams like Vietnam, Thailand Myanmar & Malaysia on a regular basis.

PAP have enough money to buy over other teams to beat them on the regular basis.

the only way singapore can qualify is to host the World Cup..

hahahahahha U gotta be joking right? Which other stadia holds beyond 50,000crowd besides our Nat stadium?
One criteria for WC hosting is that the country must at least qualify for one world cup. If Spore wants to consider to host WC, they better start getting chummy with Sepp now.

Maybe we don't have a sense of humor, but we don't find that funny

A good joke is one that after telling the joke, the listeners will ONLY laugh after some time lag, after which the joke hits them.

By this definition, MBT told an absolutely great joke. We will laugh like mad come 2010, after many years. But as someone said, not with him, but at him.

BTW, isn't 2010 a possible year for election ?

I dont think there is a criteria for a host to qualify for the world cup before?

It's a an unwritten rule and understood princinple that all hosts have must a national team of world cup standards. In practice, all countries that won hosting rights have qualified for the world cup before (except for Uruguay (1930) and Italy (1934), then 1st-time hosts and champions).

S. Korea-Japan were awarded co-hosts for 2002 before Japan actually qualified. However, Japan eventually qualified for 1998.

In any case, with the scale of the World Cup now, the hosts need 8 stadia the size of National Stadium with upgraded standards. That's why even S. Korea and Japan couldn't host alone and had to co-host.

As I have said then, its not a rule or pre-requisite for the host to have played in WC before...Japan and Korea were already awarded the hosting rights before the qualifications hence at that stage, Japan had not qualified for a WC and were still awarded the rights to stage the WC...It is good to clarify this fundamental point as it is misleading to say that FIFA only award hosting rights to countries that have qualified for WC before...all the other points are noted but subjective but the non-existence of this explicit criteria is clear.

But such a co-hosting bid would be objected by other Asian countries before it could reach FIFA. For it'd take away 3 realistic qualifying chances away from the zone and give them to 3 no-hoper countries.

We may be clever, but don't assume that others are stupid.

Anyway, there's an intercontinental queue for hosting rights, i.e. Asia will get a chance once in 16 or 20 years. Within Asia, there're many countries already well ahead in the queue; Australia, China and the Middle East countries who have qualified before but never hosted before.

On the balance, the chance of Singapore qualifying for the World Cup through a good luck streak of good results is higher than the chance of Singapore ever getting to host or co-host the World Cup.

1 National Stadium and already it's white elephant for most of the year except for a few days. If Singapore have 8, then Merlion city become White Elephant city.

In countries like Spain, England, Italy, Germany etc. they each easily have more than 2 dozens of such stadium, maintained by clubs that could fill the seats every week, World Cup or no World Cup.
