Late 30s and Still Rejected: The Harsh Reality of Upskilling in Singapore

Bounced back to BEING EMPLOYED? Who want to be an employee these days?
Common to do small businesses these days. Not everyone have the capital or chance to do these. Employee easier. No need to worry whether got business or no business, go home after work free n easy.

Upskilling is a total bullshits.

Generally anyone with a average iq and above, can mostly work in any job in this world (although not 100%) , as long as they are given a chance to, and willingness to learn.

After getting basic education, the upskill courses are actually OJT in the company. It's filled w FTs with bringing in villages. Even PHD cannot get in.

They bring in their Phd FTs to press sinkies. Some companies don’t even have OJT. Let u go explore on your own, can make it stay, if can’t ciao

No ivy league no talk. So even fake doctor from Cambridge. Still keep his CEO job.
Remember Nisa from one of our stats board?

That is for usual civil service staff who need both Ivy League and sucking right balls to climb up.

The rest are all very different. If they can deliver the results, no one ask any questions. Usually the ones who kena caught CMI in their jobs in the first place.

Have hearsay ST Infosys allow full Chinese interviews to 2 master degree holders from China. Total joke of the day like if spoken English CMI then how to even handle projects.

sorry ... no fellow sinkies will bother to sympathise or worry the same happening to themselves or their families .... they will continue to embrace the FTs and prolong the rule of the leaders in the erection .... RIP :whistling:
Well said, I no longer have any sympathies for singkies when they themselves are the cause of the problem. Remember the 65%. So all in all singkies bought it upon themselves

If employer wanted me to upskill and they pay for it as well as during working hours, I would gladly go.
But never ever upskill ourselves when we are unemployed. We should not be spending this kind of money and time during the period of unemployment

But if unemployed and don’t upskill what should the person do? Skillsfuture and other bodies will pay for sch fees if someone is unemployed? Like have some kind of training grants

If the course fee is fully covered by skillfuture, and we have the time, we can go and ssll.
But never topup own cash to it, becos many courses are leesigned in such a way to lure sinkies to topup money.
I find it Verlee evil.
People already no income they still want to swallow their skeleton and sadly, many unemployed sinkies fell into The trap.

Then what to do if one is over 45 and got retrenched? Seat there and watch?

Including Uni or other courses? Like example the Subsidy is 60% and top up 40%? I know of friends who retrenched and go back study instead. Did it help with a new job? Some yes, some no.

Some courses still have training allowance. Some don’t.

I think I was asked in a study that covers a population of Sinkies like how much I would pay out of my own pocket per year to upskill or whether the govt, employer or myself should be responsible for upskill…

We must be aware of this agenda that the day when pap thought of skillfuture and its credits, the intension was never to upskill sinkies.
They wanted to help the business owner of those educational institutions much more than the unemployed sinkies.
Most probably becos, they hold some shares in it eg ntuc learning hub etc.

I made this conclusion after some personal experience too.

I believe only very minority really benefitted from the upskilling. Or maybe it was just their luck came at that time.
Means, even without the uni upgrading, they were already on the way about to get a job.
Those subsidizes as I said, we're merely packaged to look nice.
All they want is their money.

I see. The outsourced 3rd party providers that includes bootcamp training like teaching people things like what is AI? Many courses can learn online and for free. Are these 3rd party course providers any different from Coursera?

I would rather go learn how to do plumbing instead for free.
